Congratulations. I look forward to seeing your photos of the Spear. Something interesting that is not widely discussed, is that the Pilot steel nibs from the MR/78G type pens fit in the Oliver Tulip. You can have a nice piston filler with an excellent nib for a reasonable price with a Tulip and a 78G.

My review. Sorry for the the picture quality.

Yesterday I got Gama Revolution, Another Chelpark Sona, Pilot MR M nib and Jinhao 599M from Asapens

Jinhao is low priced chinese look alike of Lamy Safari

Chelpark Sona is legendary writes smooth European EF and is a beauty to behold

Pilot MR is as you all know extremely smooth and fun

Revolution is a surprise. Very light weight, smooth and fine Jowo steel nib. no skipping. Good finish for an ebonite. My first impression is that a lot of thought has gone in design of this pen which is apparently simple and even then very very efficient. Very good balance. Pen can be carried in shirt pocket. Nib is really strong. No flex. Cap comes out in two and a half turns which I particularily like. Smooth transition from barrel to section. Pen can be comfortably held from almost anywhere on the body. I got name of my son engraved on cap. Idea came from seeing pics posted by Anup ji. Engraving could have been better. My suggestion would be to not go for engraving unless completely sure. I feel as if it interferes in smooth expanse of shiny finish. Personally I really liked the pen. It has aroused my interests in Bramhaputra and now soon I may become poorer by few bucks.

Sounds like a nice purchase. Asapens has a lot of nice options to spend our money on.

I'd be tempted to try a Revolution to see how the JoWo nib performs but I would want a different colour as I already have the Eyas in black.

Enjoy your new pens. John

Do you know of any other pens where this is also the case? With the right body, a Penmanship EF nib and feed would be great.

I believe the Penmanship uses the same nib as the 78G. The nib fits in the Oliver Tulip but you have to use the Oliver feed as the Pilot feed will not fit. This also works with the Fellowship Neo which is a piston filler that is very similar to the Tulip. I have not tried to fit these nibs to any of the ebonite eye dropper fill pens. I suspect that if you contact ASA Pens directly they might be better able to answer the question.

I am sorry but I am not sure what you mean.

I also have no idea, except to surmise that its a pen, most likely ebonite

Lamy & Pilot FPs the Best

No more I even think of the rest

  • 2 weeks later...

Does anyone know about this I CAN

This I Can looks like similar to Deccan Advocate. But seems to have better grip / section compared to Advocate.

Has anyone received an, "I Can," or a "Genius," yet? The "Genius" appears to be the shorter, pocket size of the "I Can." I really like the look of the section shape. I wonder if the step in the section would support or interfere with the writing experience. I would like to hear from anyone who already has one of these pens. Thanks.

I have also ordered a Genius - but yet to get it (not yet dispatched). Previously I wanted to take the Spear - but when I heard about these new FPs, I changed my mind.

I had/have some doubts about the section of Genius - as I had bad experience with hour glass type of section of Deccan Advocate. But I was assured that this is not hour glass.

As far from pics i get - i think its a bit tapered from threads and then straight towards the nibs.

They look like they have a thicker flair toward the nib end of the section than the Advocate. I know that I prefer the flat sections of pens like the Gama Popular to the hourglass shape of the Advocate. Please let us know your impressions when you receive your Genius. Thank you.

On an old pic on its Flickr stream, ASA says Genius to be little Kuyil

It would seem to me that Genius "should"(?) be thicker than I Can.

Kuyil is same thickness as Hawk. As its a smaller version its thickness should match at least Eyas / Revolution

The pen diameter listed on the ASAPens site has the Genius and the I Can at the same thickness but different length. The longer pen definitely looks thinner but this may be a function of the eye's perception of proportion.

Its confirmed that Kuyil and Genius is from same rod. No idea about I Can

That ASA site at times seems to do bad copy paste with no checks !

Got ASA Genius. Excellent FP in terms of shape and size.

The section is not hour-glass. But designed differently. Feels comfortable, a bit different than the usual cylindrical shape.

The only negative is that it does not have much space for nib inside the cap. Hardly 1 or 2 mm max. So if u intend to adjust the nib / feed for ink flow then nib going to hit the cap.

I further feel if ASA improves on Genius - this pen has potential to make all Gama pens assigned to history.
