Congrats! May I ask if the snow top is white or Mother of Pearl?

I have been advised that it will only come with the white snowcap

Does anyone know the significance of the artwork on the box? Is this a design from Montblanc's past?

And I forgot to add -- congratulations on the newest pen in your collection!

It's a 1920's artwork design.

~ As lovely as the 90th anniversary Meisterstück 149 fountain pen with an EF nib is, it was purchased with the intent of regularly using it in the classroom – graduate students – for writing notes or comments in black ink.

Throughout its maiden week as a workhorse, it's exceeded expectations. No skipping, neither too wet nor overly dry, well-balanced in the hand, top-of-the-line feedback while writing.

Such a joy to use!

In a class this morning, a comic moment when differing perceptions led to temporary confusion.

While I was writing an explanatory note on a manuscript, a graduate student said: “That's a really nice pen. It's in great condition even though it's older than me”.

Momentarily befuddled, I asked him when he was born. “1991” was his reply.

Then I got it. The prominent ‘90’ on the nib had understandably seemed like a hallmark for the year of manufacture.

Attached is an image of the nib taken after one week's use, the ‘90’ smiling to one and all.

~ Two weeks have passed since the last post above during which time the new EF nib 90th anniversary 149 fountain pen has surpassed all expectations.

Used in and out of the classroom, it facilitates precision control of small-scale notes on manuscripts. The superb feedback gives a feeling of confidence when drawing intricate technical sketches.

Graduate students have noticed the pen's color and the ‘90’, affording opportunities for extolling the virtues of fountain pens.

A few new photos will be attached to this post, showing the 90th anniversary pen with the two EF 149s and the M 149 which was a gift over a quarter of a century ago.

The 90th anniversary pen photographs well, the red-gold plating offering a pleasing contrast to the dark precious resin.

  • 1 year later...

~ I'm still thoroughly enjoying the original 149 90th anniversary EF.

I now own three of them, but one was sent to Hamburg, Germany and became a bespoke EEF.

A recent purchase of a 146 B nib has expanded my interest.

This afternoon I returned to the Oriental Plaza boutique where my fountain pens have been purchased.

I inquired about the platinum 149 as a possible early 2016 purchase.

I also used the testers to look at OBB and BB nibs. I a;so inquired about the OBBB nib.

Within two months, who knows?

~ I'm now regretting that I failed to act on the option to do a nib exchange for an OBBB when that was an option.

The local Beijing Montblanc boutique where my pens have been purchased contacted their regional specialists who confirmed that OBBB is treated as a bespoke request.

That wasn't the case one year ago.

A lesson to me to act when the urge strikes!

Nonetheless, the four 149 EFs all continue to perform very well when marking graduate student homework or examinations.
