then, what if the barrell be tightly held by palm and ink inside get warmed?

I assume some sort of air due to heat pressure comes out of inbetween nib section and its case.

thanks in advance.

Not "inbetween nib section and its case."

The expanding hot air escapes from the channel in the feeder if the pen is held nib up like in any other fountain pen.

If it is held nib down, dropper filled pens will push ink out as the trapped pressure increases. Here in New Mexico we have pretty extreme temperature swings. When I drive to work, my pens chill. When I get to work they must be placed nib up to warm back to room temperature or else they blob.

yes, in principle correct. The amount of ink (if any) that will be pushed out when pen is nib down is a function of the following:

  • ink buffering quality of the feeder (superb, for example, in a Pelikan M1000 nib unit)
  • The total barrel volume in the first place
  • The ratio of air to ink in the barrel volume at the given time. Air expands more wrt temperature, so a large capacity pen with very low ink levels will have more air in the barrel to expand and cause havoc. This havoc can be mitigated by the feeder depending on its design.

thank you hari,

you are very much innovative: idea is easy to talk but hard to go with itself into reality.

one more thing: how much weight do they have?

they look like bulky chunks of solid ebonite bar, i.e. heavy.

beautiful pen Hari. Very sleek. If one can't afford the Dani (like me :( ) - this is a wonderful option especially with the screw in Pel units.

Yes, the pens are made from rods of Ebonite, turned and hollowed out on a manual lathe, as needed.

36 grams without nib unit, 40 grams with nib. These are the weights capped. Uncapped the weight will be lesser since you cannot post the cap on this pen.

Thanks for reminding, I had forgotten to weigh these while writing the review.

Thank you Pelman.

That Dani is a wonderful pen with the kurekeshi finish.

The Kambar is an oversize pen in the same theme, but they pens are quite distinct I must say. I would not suggest the Kambar as a substitute for Dani.

Hari : Hugely appreciate your choice of pen nib coupling. Pel 1k nib in that gorgeous Kambar : lethal combination. That must be a dream writer ! And any amount of appreciation of your acquisition will simply be a 'hit n run' unless your uncanny photography is complimented. Great shots, as usual. Just a caveat : the pics are highly provocative : irresistible : Street Car Named Desire :puddle:

  • 3 weeks later...

I have been after ASApens.in to get Gem and Co to make me a Postable variant of the Kambar. I wanted a Parker 25 esque step in the barrel end to post the cap. After many iterations due to some or the other problem or mistake, these three were finally delivered to me. After looking at them for a while, I feel finally what Gem have done( to get me off their back) is to take their Supreme, make the ends straight, skip the cap band and then add a step on the barrel. hah. some pictures: we called this experiment the PPFT (postable pure flat top, but this has become some hybrid). Asa tried their best, however.
