The new style feeds also seem to be made of a different plastic, shinier than the old ones, and have a different diameter.

All my old style X-450s have a 6.5mm diameter feed, whilst the new ones (X-450 and X-750) have a 6.0 mm feed. You can see that in the first photo.

I've only come across the thicker one once, all the other jinhaos with #6 I have only have the thinner newer one.

So can you put a #6 german nib on the old style feeds?

I'm not in any hurry to do so, but I guess some day I'll find out for myself.

Two words: quality control. Or lack of it.

I have what I beleive to be a Hero pen that has the same feed but with a different etching on the nib and a more tacky gold plating. I wonder if there is some arrangement where there are factories or indivivudals who just make feeds the way factories make IPG nibs. If you are a manufacturer, you get your IPG nibs from a source and the feeds from a source?

Up until a year or so ago, the large Jinhao feeds were consistently 6.5mm in diameter. At some stage a manufacturing decision was made to change to 6.0mm feeds. How is that lack of quality control?

The fact that they managed to mix the two different types in one packaging. One assumes six identical pens, unless the packaging states "mixed assortment" or something.

Well if it's a standard #6 like Jowo, Goulet, Monteverde, etc. Yes the nibs on either feed fit, it's just the feed itself that is different along with the section being different (the feed isn't interchangeable, but the nibs are just fine).

Plus it's possible various sellers have a surplus of various stock. If I'm just now seeing the 'older' larger feed, then it just means the seller I got it from had some older stock. The straight black one probably isn't sold as much as the more colorful variants, so probably had more old stock to go thru.

Was from a chinese seller, each pen was individually wrapped in it's own plastic sleeve, then just bundled together in bubble wrap.

When you said "six pack" I assumed...

The seller did sell it as a 6-pack of 6 different X750 designs, that was the packaged deal, it just didn't come 'packaged' like you'd expect from most retailers/manufactures. The same seller probably sells them individually too, so probably just grabbed those 6 specific colors out of bins and packaged them, meaning individually they may not have been made around the same time.

The English language can be such a pain in the ass. I had no idea from your first post that you were actually *expecting* six different pens.

Yea I never specified in the original post (english or otherwise) that I got a 6-pack of different colors (though not sure why I'd want to buy 6 of the same colors :P)

Is there a difference between six different colors and six different designs? If there were somehow a pen that used the same model number but had differing designs, I wouldn't necessarily be surprised by differences; if all the same except for color, yeah, I'd be surprised.

All this is moot, though, since is was a hand-selected batch from an end-seller, and not a six-pen grouping (as in common blister packs) from the factory. Hence my earlier knock on factory quality control, which now makes no sense at all. :)

This might help: The 6 on the end was what I received, as I already had "Shimmering Sands" on the left.

I've never seen any of the Jinhao pens in any kind of blister/retail packaging not even straight from the retailer. Because even the "Shimmering Sands" one from Goulet Pens came in just a little plastic wrap baggie, no branding or paperwork, just the pen in a slip sleeve, just like the ones from the Chinese sellers.

Yep. Honestly, when you said six pack, I had in mind the very common way of selling Chinese pens thusly (this one as 10):

Yea I figured you meant like the Hero 616 would come and such, but I've never seen them sell Jinhao or Baoer pens like that as neither have any retail packaging. (I don't think I've ever seen a Wingsung blister pack either, Just Heros)

It's almost as if most modern chinese pens are only manufactured for selling online/ebay so there's no need to waste time with packaging :D

My Jinhao Li Bai pen, of just about 3 years ago, came in a very polished wooden box with ample decor inside and out, and was contained within an outer cardboard container, and came with a nicely printed instruction booklet with additional history.

Having said that, I don't buy many Chinese pens, and am not up on current modes, especially multi-packs, of selling.

ETA: Aaannnddd, I looked back to see some info on this pen, and came up with my own old post about it!

Yea I knew some of the bigger Jinhao pens were available in a wooden gift box, but it didn't take long for that bonus to go away.
