Hello,

I have been trying to improve my handwriting in the past several weeks. Despite my best effort, my handwriting still looks crappy and it is not quite what I wanted. So I would like to get feedback as well as pointers what I need to do to improve. Attached is a sample of my handwriting.

Thank you.

Henry

I'm not the Lord, but I will attempt an answer.

I like your handwriting. I like scripts like Gothic, Spencerian, Roundhand etc, but this is essentially taking away 'your' handwriting to create a uniform, albeit beautiful form of writing. But on the whole, your writing looks good to me and what makes it special is that it is 'yours'. I write like a drunk spider normally, but it's 'my' handwriting and I don't think I would like to change it. I can manage some scripts, but like I say, that's not 'my' writing. When you learn a particular script it is a joy; you will feel like lifting up banners, being joyous in your victory having received your hearts desire, but I tend to think (and I may get hung, drawn and quartered for saying this here) that changing what is essentially 'your' script is not always a good thing.

I'm not sure why you have issues with your handwriting (I'd be happy if mine looked like yours!) Your word height and spacing is generally consistent, it's very legible and it has a distinctive character. Unless you want to develop a standard "font" style, I'm not sure why you'd need to change this?

Thanks for the replies. Somehow I am just not content with it. Compared to some of the handwritings that I have seen, mine seems to lack certain something and I can't figure out what that is.

Just maybe, the something you are looking for is more contact with your baseline. This will give your lines more headroom and the page may become easier to look at.

Your writing is lovely though, and your floating baseline does indicate a healthy self-confidence and even-keel poise, from a graphology perspective.

If you wish to learn a standard style, then you may go to the iampeth website, there are a few styles to choose from.

From a personal perspective, I find nothing wrong with your handwriting. It's pretty consistent and legible, most of all it's distinctive.
