Cartier Fountain Pens

Recommended Posts

I have never owned a Cartier fountain pen but every now and then I see one for sale on the Internet that makes me pause, as in I might like to buy that. Usually price and having a higher priority on my wish list means I move on. Anyway, any opinions on Cartier pens? Who makes their nibs? Thanks.

Cartier is owned by Richemont Group. They also own Montblanc, Dunhill, Chloe and more. Plus some very select watch manufacturers

I never quite understood why anyone would care who made the nib for a given fountain pen. In the case of Cartier a reasonable question might be "How well finished are the Cartier nibs?"

Thanks to its looks, pasha was a pen I wanted to buy but failed to pull the trigger (on such an expensive proposition) because of lack of opinions/reviews out there. For a company that isn't considered a fp icon, Cartier sure puts out some beautiful pens though.

Interesting question since they are owned by Richmonte Group. Though I guess the ultimate question is how well do they write. I'd love to own this Roadster one day.

Quality is often associated with name. If I'm offered a pen, I want to know how good the nib is. If the owner doesn't know, then I want to know whether it's made by a chinese knock-off manufacturer or a Limited edition Montblanc maker.

The nib will be as good as Cartier makes it, regardless of who manufactures the nib.

I had considered adding a Cartier or a Dunhill pen to my collection, but their current designs just don't appeal to me. Specifically, I feel that the nibs are too small as compared to the rest of the pen (to save on expensive gold?!) and the few Cartier pens I've tried (Roadster, Diabolo) didn't feel as good in the hand as the other pens I already own.

I think cartier's nibs are made by Bock.

Quick iPhone shots. I love my Cartier triple band (rose, white and yellow gold). The color when it came out I believe was called "candy apple" red. The nib is 18k broad, very smooth, hard as a nail. The box and the seller stated it was a medium nib. Nope.

Their nibs were also too small years ago in their Pasha models.

One more thing for the OP. This Cartier (and others I've held) is very heavy for its size. The (incredible) lacquer work is coated around brass. Impossible to post the cap w/o unbalancing the pen in one's hand. The nib is smallish, but on this pen I think proportionate. Try them out if you get the opportunity.

Edited for grammatical "sin"-tax.
