Converter Question For Online Event Fountain Pen

Historian

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Whilst I was in Germany I bought an Online Event fountain pen. I would like to get a converter for it, but not sure which one. On the website of the shop they do sell one, but that seems quite flimsy, so not sure about it. I'm also new to converters, so this might sound silly, but would any standard converter fit into this pen?

Any recommendations would be very helpful!

Many thanks!

Inks: Waterman Serenity Blue, Diamine Blue-black, Diamine Twilight, Lamy Red, Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses, Noodler's 54th Massachusetts, Montblanc Irish Green, Lamy Turquoise, Pelikan 4001 Brown

Pens: Lamy Safari Black M nib, Lamy Vista M nib, Sheaffer Targa F nib, TWSBI Vac700 demonstrator 1.1 nib, Pelikan M200 Cognac M nib

I think it is a standard international.. A Waterman one would suffice.

It's quite an interesting pen been wanting to try an Online pen for a while the green one looks really nice.

Many thanks! That's what I suspected, but wasn't 100% sure.

I have the black one, it was that or the red. It writes very smoothly and so far I'm pretty pleased with it.

Yes, Online pens (and rollerballs) use international standard converters.

Thanks for your reply! Would you recommend a make? I quite like the look of the Waterman in the link above, but I'm open to other suggestions as well.

Mine are just some no-name cheap ones I bought in the same shop as the pens.

Pelikan sells international converters as well. I think if you buy online and can't judge the quality you should probably go for a known brand.

Thanks! I ended up ordering a Pelikan converter. Now just need to find the right inks. :D

Many thanks again to all the replies.

I got a Pelikan and a Waterman Deluxe converter. The woman in the shop said, when I was buying ink, that the Waterman Deluxe Converter can only properly take Waterman ink. She was going on about how the, for example, Parker ink is thicker than the Waterman ink, so the converter cannot suck the Parker ink up properly, and it might even damage it. It would also void the warranty.

Aside from the warranty being void. Is this true? (To me it sounds like poppycocks.)

Balderdash.

You bought the right converter with the Pelikan.

That is a standard international size converter. While Waterman cartridges are almost like the standard international (but... see below) the converters have more differences.

While you MAY have luck that the Waterman converter fits your pen, the Pelikan is the better choice.

I have used my Waterman cartridges in many standard international pens with success. Also I have been using standard international cartridges in some of my Watermans, but some Waterman pens are too narrow for the slightly wider base of the Standard international cartridges.

Any converter can take any fountainpen ink ( do NEVER (as in not once in your entire life) use India ink in your fountainpens, as that will ruin your pen. India ink is fine for oldfashioned dip-pens but not for fountainpens) Waterman is not going to make problems if you used Parker ink in your converter, and vice versa. The only brand making such foolish statements is Montblanc.

Of course some inks require more frequent maintenance. You should clean your pens every other month or so, and more often with difficult inks. Also do a good clean/flush when changing inks, or putting your pen away for a longer time.

Anyway, since I posted here, I unfortunately found out that brand international converters aren't a better fit than no-name international converters. I wanted to put a Pelikan international into my CdA Dunas, which up to that point had a no-name international. The Pelikan fit just like no-name onto the nib section, but as I wanted to screw the barrel on, it didn't work. Turns out the Pelikan has a slightly longer/bigger midsection - where the screw-mechanism meets the cartridge-section - and therefore doesn't fit the Dunas. :/

Hope you've had a chance to try out an Online pen. I used one of their calligraphy pens to write a hundred wedding invitations and it performed terrifically. The metallic cover on the grip flaked off so the next time I bought one with a plastic grip.

Thanks for the post about the converters, all. Didn't know quite what to do as I was after using Noodler's Ink.
