I know for sure that's not an authentic converter, and I know how I would vote, but I would like to see what you all think.

the clues are endless...

 

the tone in the cap is not a montblanc star. the cap top ring is very crude. poor polishing of the cap rings. the nib doesn't look stamped(I should say, the impression on the original are much crisper)

It was the plating on the nib that gave it away for me. Pretty bad.

For me its:

1. look of diamond

2. crudeness of finish at the area where the clip enters the cap

3. irregular finish of the cap band area. MB's grooves are really precise-looking.

4. no shots of jeweller's marks (I'm presuming that this model is at least silver under the plating on the real thing?)

5. the nib - not only the 'stamping', but if you look carefully, you'll see that the nib is actually steel with gold plating - the plating has covered the tipping!

I am amazed that anyone even bids when the vendor rating is not just below 99%, it's below 98%.

Absolutely. Does anyone remember hari's thread? If I remember correctly, this pen is identical to the one he showed us.

1) never available in a 144 version and

2) never produced in a Solitaire version ...

I have dealt several times with the seller, he is a good guy, i think this might be a case of seller not knowing.

I looked through his sold listings. He sold a similar pen: item # 390795615993, at almost the same time, for the same price. That is also suspect. Same gold plating over the nib tines, same converter. Different model and not a 'Diamond' edition.

I believe they were always issued with 18K nibs. However, if someone wanted a nib exchange it would be possible that one could be replaced with a 14K nib during it's lifetime. Mind you those 'alleged' Mb's were also 'new' so should have 18K nibs

I just received a silver solitaire 146 from my MB boutique and it has a 14K nib not 18K. It is marked AU 585.
