It's probably a fake. It is Russia, after all.

There goes the neighbourhood...

What a waste of a perfectly good Montblanc.

(146 or 149).

Not to worry. In the picture the person seated to his right has a pen stand too, so most likely the Montblanc is not Putin's, but was provided for the signing. He probably carries a BIC in his polyester suit.

Why do you think it is a deskset and not a capped MB?

The screencap that idazle posted in comment #13 shows a MB pen stand.

Moral: it is easier to take .... than to take a Montblanc.

I think so, too. Putin is well educated and seems to be the kind of man who appreciates fine things.

...like the Ukraine. Ha ha ha! *ahem*

In a different photo in the article there are several people seated at the table and the hand on the left is definitely holding a fountain pen.

Politics aside, I think Putin has a good taste. Also, the fact he takes care of his body so well (for his age) speaks volumes. Usually, such a person has developed good taste in fine things.

When I watched that Video on the BBC news I thought the pen tip looked more like a ballpen than a fountain pen. If that is the case (not saying it is though) what Montblanc Ballpen is the size of a 146 or 149

Last night on BBC news at ten he was using a roller ball 146 legrand? But the day before he looked like he was using a fountain pen.It was interesting when they cut to a clip of the European ministers the pens ranged from a Bic biro to fountain pens of various colours

One may or may not like Putin's political actions, but that has nothing to do with the man himself, who is well educated and has good taste. On a personal level he's very far from the grobian semi-illiterate drunkards that most of his predecessors were.

Politics aside, he's a refined man.

Politics aside; an educated and refined despot, is still a despot.
