That's just a start. There are dozens of other events in SF that weekend that might bring folks to the city. (Just like most weekends.)

Total Attendance: 20,000

That could do it. Most of the weekends around 8/23 have relatively "normal" SFO weekend rates; bunch of hotels sold out and $500 for the Hotel Kabuki is a little much. :)

Friday night. Band in the lounge. I'll buy the first round.

If you are here Thursday evening, I'll buy a round then too.

Glad you can make it.

Ack! I don't think we can get there on Friday, it would be verrrrry late arrival. How about drinks on Saturday?!? LOL

Are you assuming there will be any alcohol left by then? This is a very hedonistic area of the state, yanno.

If I can only be there for one day, would Saturday give me access to the most pens? Or will all the dealers/exhibitors be there on Friday as well?

Here's a link to some public transit info in in the Hotel Sofitel area:

http://www.sofitel.com/gb/hotel-0922-sofitel-san-francisco-bay/index.shtml#./presentation.shtml

Unfortunately, BART does not run nearby, but the hotel does have a free shuttle from SFO.

It will be my first pen show, and I have convinced my husband to come along (I have a cunning plan)...who knows, maybe he'll be another new convert to the PenSide?

Yesterday morning the Sofitel called and said the rooms were sold out for some nights. SO, yesterday we fixed that. We managed to reserve another small block of rooms at the show rate. If you had made reservations and didn't get the show rate you should now have it giving you more money for pens.

If you haven't booked rooms now is the time to do so, the rate is only guaranteed until 7-31 or until they run out.

Jon,

I'll put some info together on transportation options with the convention board we are working with. SFO-Sofitel is easy we have a regular shuttle all days. BART is at the airport and CalTrain is a long walk.

BUT, we have enough planned to keep you busy without a car. Finalizing the band now. We will update the boards next week. If you haven't done so, book your rooms before the reserved block fills up.

Just wondering if there is anymore info on the public transportation front? My car is not reliable at the moment so I now have to take public transporation to the event. I looked at the Sofitel website and there is a shuttle from SFO to the hotel but that is only for hotel guest. With pending car expenses, hotel budget is now $0.00. I supposed I could scam a ride from the Sofitel shuttle once, but was hoping to attend the pen show a couple of times, since this will be my first show. Please let us know if there will be some short of shuttle, either from SFO/BART or the Cal-train station?

Oh and will there be another pen posse before the show? Unfortunately I missed the last one. Thanks much.

I am very excited for the show. I am undecided though on which ticket to buy. I can likely only go Friday but I suspect it is worth the extra $50. How much earlier to do trader pass holders get into the show and would this likely get you a quicker wait for nib adjustments?

The Trader's Pass can get you one day earlier I think. Friday is open only to Trader's Pass holders and not to the public so it's probably a shorter line compared to the next two days

I looked at the Sofitel website and there is a shuttle from SFO to the hotel but that is only for hotel guest.

I myself have just now looked at the Sofitel Web site and in the Access section I found the shuttle mentioned. I didn't see any mention that it was only for guests. Where does that idea come from?

I don't have any idea that you need to be a guest to have lawful business at a hotel. You could be meeting Larry Ellison in the lobby and buying Oracle. If you were me, you could be going to a pen show. That's how I got to the 2012 San Francisco show.

The hotel has extended the room rate for all bookings made yet today before the close of business. The 'normal' rate is substantially higher.

If you don't have a room and you need one, better get it now.

Hope to see some of you in a few weeks.

Todd

How will we know the artist wife when we see her if she is not with Greg?

Do we look for a paint brush?

We should probably look for a massive belt of brushes and burnishers along with some really nice vintage pens in it

I am getting excited for the show! I am going to bring a couple of pens to have tuned but I can't say I have ever had a pen tuned in person. Is it proper to have my pens empty like I would when mailing a pen to a nibmeister?

I would think you would have it inked or bring your ink.

He would not be able to do much about flow w/o ink.
