I have the p66 Solid Ice with a fine SIG nib. Inked with Bungubox Sapphire. Looks beautiful. Writes beautifully. Just trying to figure which model to get next

Please post how much you like it, and photos would be nice, but not necessary. That’s the pen I want now, and must wait for the color to return to stock

I love my F-C 31 Smoke and Ice. It is my go to pen. Of all my F-C pens, I have 9 it is my favorite. It fits very comfortably in my hand. I do not like the feeling of a step on pens. This has a large section which is very comfortable. I like the way it Is designed. I prefer it to the 02 and the 20 by far. I got a Masuyama MCI nib with it and as usual love his grinds. I chose no clip as I do not like them.

My first "high end" fountain pen was a Model 20 Marietta, in vintage green clipless, and it's still one of my favorite pens. I currently have it equipped with a medium SIG, which is a lovely nib. I've also had the 65 in both Blue-Violet and Solid Ice, and three 66s in Solid Ice, all with Masuyama broad cursive italic nibs. (For eyedroppering in a range of colors, of course!)

I've been jonesing for a 65 in good ol' black for the last year or so, and I keep hoping I'll find one on the boards. And one in Garnet! And a Marietta in Tiger Red. And... and... :-)

I'm in the beginning stages of my fountain pen addiction journey and hadn't really paid much attention to F-C until a couple of weeks ago. After reading some reviews and checking out the website, I ordered a Model 31 (classic black with a fine nib). Love it! It looks great, feels great and writes great. I'm already planning my next F-C purchase (probably a Model 19).

@ Twin63. Glad to read you are happy with your 31. I like mine too. Once I got the nib exchanged to the broad cursive italic, I was happy with its writing.

F-C makes it very easy to exchange nibs. I wish they would find a good material to bring back their coco & cream color.

I agree about more photos. Happily I posted a photo of mine already. It’s the same pen as pictured above in post 182.

The good thing about posting photos here, especially where semi-transparent pens are concerned, is you can see them with ink in them or a converter. They are not shown that way on the F-C website.

FC pens are photogenic, they have a rather personal design which makes them different.

I only complain about that step which is present in many of their models...

Besides the Marietta, which other FC model is without step down?

this is the line up from FC's site

fpn_1550003555__2578187_1_fc.jpg

as much as I like the P66 that step down is too sharp for me, so with much regret (because I think it looks stunning) it's likely that I won't like the feel of the 66 either...

the P20 looks really too small (I don't post my pens)

and I would rather not go for a #5 nib

the 33 also looks somewhat odd...

so which FC should I try next?

the 02 perhaps?

can anyone step-sentitive that has one or more FCs give advice on this aspect?

Thank you!

@sanseri I never noticed the step on my F-C pens until you mentioned it. I'm going to take them all out and see if I notice any difference now that I'm aware of it...lol

ughh... hope I haven't raised an issue for you... :o

btw, I must say the step on the P66 looks like the sharpest by looking at the picture

and also that (hopfully) it may not affect you, I do hold my pens rather high up and not close to the nib, so the section on the p66 is slightly too small for the way I hold pens

No not at all. I just checked mine out and no not a problem at all. Even if I hold with my fingers on the step. The model 02 and 65/66/p66 are so great for long writing sessions.

I know what you mean -- the step between the barrel and the section really bothers me.

I can't use a pen like the Pilot Metropolitan, because that step is too irritating.

The same is true for some Pelikan models, as well.

That being said, the Model 03 is my favorite Franklin-Christoph pen.

I can see the step there, but I can't feel it when I'm using the pen, and I can write a few pages with no problems.

Cheers!

F-C is local to me. During a tour of their facility i picked up one of their model 28. Very pleased with my purchase.

Thank you very much, however since I own the P66 and find the step so bothering I'm still wary of what the 65 and 66 will be like.

From the FC picture the section on the 66 seems slightly longer than on the P66, and that might just be sufficient for the step to be not as sharp. But I'm not sure I'll risk...

Thank you, that's encouraging news, I was guessing the 02 might be my best choice, but I am glad the 03 could also be a candidate.

Many thanks for describing this aspect, not everyone is sensitive to this.

The odd thing is Pelikans don't usually bother me, I assume you mean the threading.

I've noticed however that often the reason is I hold them so high up that my fingers are behind the threads! Especially on the M200s.

Love the three FC pens I have – beautiful design, smooth nibs, no ink on my fingers. I've bought one from each of the last three LA pen shows and am looking forward to buying another this week at the pen show!

Bad news. The LA pen show is one of the shows they will not be attending this year.
