Well mine started literally a few weeks ago after I ran into this really useful thread by cybaea(thankyou!), and shortly after where i found 30ml Diamines available for anywhere between £2.95 and £3.80 inc P&P.

 

Soooo in the last few weeks I've been buying Diamine inks like a kid in a sweet shop. I don't (yet) actually have a practical use for so many different coloured inks, I just like the look of them and having a choice.

 

However I'm actually about to start learning Mandarin, and learning simplified Chinese means having to practice practice practice writing hanzi over and over again. Stroke order of the pen is vital and I've been told that a (flex) fountain pen is preferable to make all the varying width strokes, so I think i'm going to have a practical use for all those inks afterall.

 

"Pen" is written in mandarin as a compound using "bamboo" and "wool"(or "hair").

WateryFlow: I trust by now somebody has introduced you to fude nibs; they're bent upwards, sort of like a ski tip, and you hold the pen like an ink brush and tilt it towards you to widen the line. A lot of the Chinese calligraphy FPs with fude nibs on Amazon get bad reviews from buyers expecting a Western, edged-style nib.

Me, too. I can't remember a time when I didn't want to write or draw on interesting or good quality papers, or have just the "right" stapler, or want to write out French verb conjugations using a dip calligraphic nib and a bottle of ink. I am another office supply nerd poster boy...

Is there a novice (or beginner) thread that we should follow?   

 

The question i would like to post:

I am having some success with Pilot Iroshizuku and Sailor Studio inks but there seems to be a price difference (i.e. $22 for 50ml Pilot vs $18 for 20ml Sailor - at Goulet).  Assuming you can get the colors you want, is there a quality (or other difference) between these brands?
