Visconti - Repair Of Cracked Cap

So a few months ago, I sent in my visconti voyager for repair because the cap had a small crack in it, right at the bottom of the cap (looked like a hairline fracture). After filling out the repair request for Coles of London, CL contacted me and said they had to send my pen back to headquarters to get it fixed.

 

I just got the pen back last week and upon looking at it, the crack is still there. It's not clear to me whether Visconti simply "fixed" the crack by somehow ensuring that it wouldn't spread further, but in any event, it's clear that they did not replace the cap with a new one.

 

Is this what I should be expecting by way of a "repair"? Just wanted to get some feedback before I raise it with CL.

Current Wishlist:

Visconti, Visconti, and...more Visconti! (And some ST Duponts too). (Ok fine, getting on the Omas and Montblanc trains now too. Toot toot.) (And maybe on the Montegrappa one too, but only for the Miyas.)

The piece should have been replaced, there has definitely been a mistake there, most likely on the distributor part. I already used Visconti's assistance and it's top notch.

I agree they will make it good. They even finally replaced my HS after it went back to them twice. Its an inconvenience of course for you.

I just found this thread, five days after I sent an OE to Coles with a broken cap. I'm somewhat encouraged that with with perhaps some needed persistence, they will do a good job.

so was the cap finally fixed or not?

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

This is the reason why I always recommend my customers to add a note with a brief written description of the damage - even if it's clearly viewable. If there is a crack, we place a piece of colored tape with an arrow, beside it, before sending it to the producer.

Producers receive many pens to be repaired, tested, revised, adjusted, cleaned, substituted, tested again, and so on. Even evident cracks may go missed.

I've sent a few pens to Visconti for repair via my local distributor, and like you they make sure the problem and desired solution are documented as clearly and obviously as possible. That approach worked well for my repairs.

Judging on problems I hear with "badly" repaired pens from other brands, this should be S.O.P. when sending a pen in.

My pen (WS LE) goes in to Coles tomorrow, and I'll admit, I specifically sent a detailed email about the issue, specifically referencing this thread.

 

Nothing like a three day old pen where ink is flowing into the section between the barrel and the celluloid. As is my understanding, this is a problem they have seen in the past, and hopefully it's simply rapidly repaired.
