Clueless In Cleveland: Long Time Lurker, First Time Poster – Help!

Hello and welcome to FPN! I am also from Cleveland, and just had to say hello! You should investigate some vintage options.... There's lots of reasons you might be experiencing a hard start. My first guess would be to look for "baby's bottom", but that can be difficult if you don't have a decent loupe. PM me if you want to chat.

@johniem: Thanks for the suggestion on the ink. Oxblood is a fairly thick ink and could be contributing to the problem. But it works for the purposes of the pen, so I'm looking for ways to gently manipulate the tines. If that still doesn't work, I'll switch inks. Actually, I found a thread that suggested putting a sheet of paper between the tines. That got me about half way, but I'm still hoping for just a little bit more flow.

Greetings and welcome. Try to attend the pen show In Dublin this coming fall. It's a great show.

In my opinion, the one paper that is superior to all the rest is Rhodia R. Once you try it, there's no turning back!

@playpen: Thanks for the welcome. As I transition from bad paper to good, I'm currently writing in any one of about 6 different notebooks & pads: Picaddilly Essential Lined (transitioning away from), a tiny Rhodia pad (#11, I think), A6-dot and A5-lined Firma Flex from Franklin-Christoph, and two large Clairefontaine notebooks (one is A4 clothbound, the other is 8.5x11 spiral). I'm cutting myself off from anymore paper for now.

 

Thanks, also, for the heads-up about the Dublin show. I should have enough time to save up a little to blow there.

 

Oh, and I mentioned an issue with my Pilot 78g broad/stub not starting ... I think I've fixed the problem more or less. I found a thread about sticking some paper between the tines (?sp.). It's not perfect, but much better flow than before without having to push any ink.

 

Study break is over. Back to the books for me ...
