Saw A Fp In A Drugstore Today!

I saw this in my local CVS today, and it made me smile. I've heard people on this forum talk about pharmacists selling fountain pens in the 70s, but I was happy to see it today. its over MSRP, which is a shame, but its better than nothing, and this is a pen that's nicer than its price anyway.

Ooh! The only FP I see at my local Walgreens is the awful Zebra one... Hopefully they will up their game soon and catch up to CVS. :-)

Yeah, I was expecting to see the Zebra, as well! This, at least, will be a pen that doesn't put off the newbies. (That said, my Zebra works pretty well with a Platinum converter, a hack suggested elsewhere on FPN.)

Are you in NJ? The MR is the international cartridge version of the Metropolitan produced for the Asian and European markets. I believe that although they share the MR name, they are slightly different. I notice that the box identifies it as part of the Metropolitan collection. Interesting. I will have to check the CVS here.

This store is in East Windsor, NJ. It says MR, but the cartridge it is packaged with is a pilot proprietary and not an international short, you can see it to the right of the pen in the photo, although it is dark ink over black paper.

I always thought it was a problem with either the nib, feed, or both. Maybe thought the ink was a problem too.

It is not listed in their online store. I will check locally. I hope they sell.

There's a CVS across the street from my workplace. I'll try to check it out and see if the Nebraska stores have them.

I didn't see other cartridges in the store, but I wasn't really looking. I just shot the photo to share the joy with other fpn members. I'm not sure, but I think there is a converter inside the pen from the fact that the cart is in the blister and not in the pen barrel.

Checked yesterday. Thus far, no pens in the Lincoln NE CVSs. I'll keep an eye out for further developments.

I stopped at a largish CVS on the way in to work today. Quite a few Pilot pens, but no fountain pens. I'd expect to see the Varsity before the Metro, but none at all.

Wow! The last fountain pen I saw for sale in a drug store was a Sheaffer's school pen in a blister pack in the early 1970s. I'm going to look to see if we have a CVS in town! Thanks for posting.

I checked out the CVS in the small Indiana city I work in yesterday. There were no fountain pens there, other than the Lamy 2000 I had clipped into my polo shirt.

I'm sure that when it was still known as Revco (up in my part of the country at the time), CVS is where I usually got my Vectors. Granted, this was before Wally-World came to town

 

After seeing this post, I stopped by a CVS in South Georgia at lunchtime. No such luck. Not even a disposable FP to be seen.
