J. Herbin Lie de Thé

I've tried several brown inks but they all had too much red in them. Lie de Thé is not red at all, and it's probably my favourite ink. It's a nice, dark, true brown with looots of shading, and has a vintage feel to it. Very elegant.

Nothing's as beautiful as Lie de Thé in a wet pen!

If you like that vintage look, Cacao du Brésil is another great J. Herbin brown that is easy on the eyes.

Thanks for the hint - I've been wondering about Cacao du Brésil but it seems quite a bit darker than Lie de Thé and I'm not sure I like very dark inks. But since I really love brown as an ink colour, I guess I should give it a try sometime. I'm always on the look out for non-red brown inks, even if I'm really happy with Lie de Thé!

My first brown was Waterman Havana Brown - very saturated and reddish. I loved it, but was looking for a more vintage-feel brown. So I got Diamine Saddle Brown, which is a nice medium brown. Then I saw this review, and HAD to have Lie de The. It's not available in my country, but when I wrote Karen Doherty of Exaclair about wanting to review the ink, she sent me a bottle recently. It's EXACTLY like the one in your scan, so I'm so very pleased. Now I have three very different browns, all of which I love, but I especially appreciate how Lie de The shades.

www.penandco.com, and Jean Elie will ship any Herbin ink worldwide directly from France very reasonably. He is a member here and a pleasure to deal with.

Give Diamine Golden Brown a try. If anything it may have a slight (and brief) yellow tint to it depending on the light. Winderful shading even with F nibs. See the great example in the review thread. It's my brown of choice for the time being.

Thanks, that's wonderful! If only I could write like that...

I've had the pleasure to see Jared's hand and although Hanna's is beautiful, Jared's is as well.

Wow, I think Lie de Thé is one of the loveliest old fashioned inks that I have seen.

Such an special ink this one is.....

A friend of mine wrote me a letter with Lie de The' and I fell in love

with the color immediately! I like colors that are muted...........

Same here. A letter from Australia came writen in LdT on Lalo and it was love at first sight. Understated, elegant and classy. Argh, and I can't have any more inks for a while....not fair.
