Retina Searing Inks -- Inks So Vibrant, They Are Blinding

Recommended Posts

When I got my Goulet order a few days ago (first ink order!) they'd written with the OS Jane Austen. It didn't seem out of place or excessively bright. So with the right nib and writing I'm sure they work well. Certainly for drawing, with these colors you can be more expressive.

Maybe in my next ink order (which shouldn't be soon, but my guess is it'll be well before I actually need ink) maybe I'll order a sample packet of searing inks. Then my words will blaze! :)

Ooo Pretty!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Here's one I haven't yet seen mentioned: Platinum Mix-free Flame Red.

Sorry, don't have a picture of it -- but trust me when I say it is day-glo Mercurachrome in color...

Oh, and the scan of Emily Dickinson does not do the color justice -- it's a *whole* lot brighter than what's showing on my screen!

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Here is why no other blue compares to BSB. Can you find the BSB spiders?

Okay, you have me. I don't have Hellfire. Is that one of the highlighter inks? I have Djinn of the Eternal Flame which is actually on the chalky side. Here it is with a blue (noodler's).

I just bought some Diamine Soft Mine and Diamine Claret which I think might fit the bill. I've gotta say, I love this thread. I'm loving all the eye popping colors.

I'll keep on struggling, 'cause that's the measure of a man.

I haven't tried Soft Mint, though it seemed like the creamy center of an Andes mint. I haven't tried Diamine Claret. I've tried Diamine Merlot and Private Reserve Claret. I don't think of either of them as over the top bright. Diamine Claret could be different.

Now, Diamine Cerise, a new acquisition is retinal searing. Here is what I have inked up.

After having used my sample some more, I've gotta recommend Diamine Apple Glory for this thread. Don't have a picture of it right now though.

So many inks, so little time...

Hmm.... I own that ink. Let me find a sample for inclusion.

Wow that Cerise is really bright, very nice haha. The Diamine Claret reminds me of Iroshizuku Yama Budo; both of which look to me like a slightly duller version of Noodler's Cactus Eel.

I don't have a proper scanner to show the Soft Mint color...but I do have a bunch of the ink and some vials if you'd like a sample. It seems to vary in brightness and color depending on the nib; more so than other inks I've tried.

Hmm... the only sample I have is from the 2012 fade test.

This has my first time on this thread, and it has been a very enjoyable cruise :D

So many inks . . . so little time!

Technical question for anyone who wants to answer -- when you scan a writing/drawing sample, do you scan it to .pdf or to one of the picture formats, like .jpg?

The PDF format doesn't show up with a cute little picture, just that little Adobe icon.

Thanks. The only pics I've posted, I've taken with my Coolpix. I haven't tried to scan anything. I know that would bring the colors out better.
