Finally Parker 61- My Dream Pen

Congratulations on your purchase Krishnan!

When it arrives, I'd be interested to hear how the Parker 61 compares with the Hero 336. (Or if anyone else has both, would love to hear your comparison.)

I've had my eye on the 61 and recently purchased a 336 as an inexpensive "trial." And, well, now I wonder how similar the two pens actually are. I like the size and shape of the 336, but find the plastic, I'm not sure, maybe a little slick? Does the 61 feel similar in your hand? And how about the weight?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes Friend,

Definitely I update after the comparison :)

The latest is that it has reached India & awaiting Customs Clearance.

I paid about $50 for mine, five years ago. I am pleased with it.

Avoid wiping the capillary filler, after filling. It is Teflon. don't scratch it. Simply touch it to the side of the bottle.

The excess will run off.

Time to get a rubber ear bulb. Trim little by little until it fits over the capillary tube. Use to flush the Parker 61.

Gentle pressure. Be patient. Fit the bulb over the nib and section to back-flush.

May you and your very special pen live long and prosper.

ps >

I was told that ultrasonic cleaning can make the gold arrow fall off.

Great catch! I loved mine, but eventually sold it as it was a bit slim for my hand.

Do be careful to not use highly saturated inks in it -- use dye-based inks that will flush out easily ( I had great luck with Watermans and Sheaffer, and Noodlers Eel Blue). Mine came to me pretty well blocked with old ink, so I set up a siphon from a jar down to a tightly fitting tube over the capillary end, slow-dripping out the nib into a low jar, that then overflowed down into a larger jar. It took days, using a diluted KohINoor pen flush and ammonia in water, until the old ink finally loosened up and ran clear ( I kept recycling the flush from the bottom jar to the top to keep it dripping...). When you rotate it out, dry it out well by keeping the nib in contact with a paper towel or rag after you flush it out. The 61s do take a bit more maintenance but are well worth it.

Thanks Friend :)

Not sure how the real product will be. I guess it should be fine. I already have a Ear Bulb, which I got during Septoplasty Surgery.

The fact is I am too Excited :). May be I will get it tomorrow since the package has been cleared from Customs & sent for despatch from Chennai International Post Office :)

Thanks Tim.

I am planning to use only Mont Blanc ink for it. Also I am yet to see the condition of the product. So eagerly awaiting :)

excellent buy, krishnan….may I suggest pelikan 401 brilliant black or diamine sargossa sea or chelpark blue black (if you have the blue black inclination)

anyways, all the best.

I have several, but all of mine are aeromatic fill. I honestly have never seen a capillary fill model. For a mint 61, though that seems like a very good price.

I have never had any problems with the plastic being bad or fragil. One of mine a black with gold filled cap is one my father had back in the late 1940's and forwarded to me in the early 60's to use when I was in college. It has been carried, dropped banged around and still looks good with no dents or scratches.

Regards

Thanks Sri. I am now using it with Chelpark Royal Blue.

I have 2 parker 61, one advice for you, the plastic is CRAPtastic, it can easily break so be careful

Thanks Friend. Ya I am much more careful.

Good to know Jeff. Nowadays I am much more interested in antique Fountains pens.

Sorry Friends.

I was unable to post the review this week. Was quite engaged on weekend. Will try to post the review & pics this Friday . Also I have couple of simple tips to share for P61.
