What is your backup pen? or do you have one?

What is the sidekick that you carry for when you need to make carbon prints or in situations where a fountain pen is not suitable (when writing on plastic coated paper).

My side kick is the Lamy Swift Palladium.

In a pinch, I ask to borrow someone else's ballpoint.

Cross Tech3+. Black, Red and 0.7 (or was it 0.5? Don't remember...) Plus, it has a Stylus :-) All in one pen, not that thick as one would think...

I carry a black Cross Classic Century ballpoint pen for triplicate forms, etc. at work. My everyday carry is typically a Lamy Safari, my TWSBI 540 or a Pilot Vanishing Point.

I've got a few ballpoint pens that I used to LOVE. I carried a Surefire original pen for years. I love it because of how flexible it is in terms of refills it will take. It can take just about anything. It was "my pen" for the better part of a decade. Since I've found fountain pens, I can't write with ballpoints and rollerballs anymore. It's not that my touch is too light, it's that my hand cramps up and it's so uncomfortable to write with them. So I'll occasionally pull out my old pens and try and use them and realize that I don't want to anymore. It's a bit sad.

Nowadays I carry a pencil and a fountain pen with me. I don't use ballpoints or rollerballs. If I have to sign a carbon paper, I just borrow a non-fountain pen, like kiavonne above.

Woodcase pencils, preferably a Tombow Mono 100 in B. I also carry the Midori brass bullet pencil and a little Zebra propelling pencil as a backup.

I usually have a few inexpensive gel pens in my bag. I also tend to carry a few pencils, usually some woodcase and some mechanical.

I am continually festooned with pens. I carry my Lamy Safari and Pilot Metropolitan in a pouch in my bag, If I think I'll need them. But I can always be counted on to have a Pilot Techpoint 5mm, a fine Sharpie marker, several pencils, and anything else I've purloined from doctors offices, hotels, restaurants, whatever. Basically the only pens I won't pocket are Other People's Pens (OPP).

I don't do ballpoints, they've never really worked for me, but since my bag is a black hole for writing instruments in the same way that some women's purses are hordes of lipgloss, I can generally find something appropriate for the task at hand.

My trusted ole' Cross Century Ballpoint pen. I got it in 1998 when I was gifted it.

In my bag I have a Waterman Forum rollerball and a Montblanc ballpoint, both from the 90's.

I have a huge cup of assorted non-FPs on my desk at school. Felt tip, ball point, mechanical pencils, whiteboard markers - it's all there. At home there are tons of random ballpoints and such laying around too. So if I really need one, I just grab whatever's closest. I had bought a really nice looking Pilot G2 rollerball at the beginning of the semester, but it doesn't seem to agree with me very well. Very comfortable to write with, but the ink takes so long to dry that I wind up with a page full of smears. Really quite a shame and I should see if a different refill would solve the problem, because it would be my first choice of non-FP writing instrument...

The only non fountain pen I carry right now is a cheap nylon tip pen. I never actually write with it though. It sort of functions as ablative armour in case someone asks me to borrow a pen :)
