Nakaya Naka-Ai Shobu W/ Spencerian Nib

I've been given a Nakaya Naka-Ai Shobu by a very generous and lovely friend and I've been told it's cleared customs. Hopefully it'll be with me on Friday but I couldn't contain my excitement so I figured I'd let you all know so you can be impatient with me It'll have a Rhodium-plated clip and Mr Mottishaw's custom Spencerian-ground nib. It's gonna be cool.

Wow nice! Gosh that friend must think a lot of you to warrant such a gift.

 

To be honest I myself am not very keen on Urushi lacquer pens as I feel you are paying a lot of money for a fancy bit of paint work rather then an improvement in the writing experience. I would personally prefer to buy e.g. a Pelikan M600 and a Parker Duofold using the money.

 

But do write a review on your new pen as it would be interesting to read the thoughts on what could be considered by some a Grail pen. It would also be interesting as from what I recall you relatively new to the crazy world of fountain pens.

Yeah, relatively new. I've loved writing for ages but always hated ballpoints. I have more experience with dip nibs

 

Personally, I don't like Parkers and, much as I admire Pelikans, I don't love them. Nakaya was the pen company that first made me want a fountain pen, and I never dreamed I'd own one, so this is pretty amazing really

2) I know, I'm hoping it's low but don't mind paying whatever it is as the pen will still be very special to me no matter what I pay. I think it's about 20% on average so that would still be about £100 for a new Nakaya!

It will be interesting to hear your impressions of the Nakaya compared to the 3776 as the 14k platinum nib is the one the Nakaya is based on. Obviously the construction and aesthetics of the Nakaya will be better, but how different is the writing experience?

I'm not sure that'll be a fair test, as the nakaya has a needle-point rhodium plated flex nib and the platinum's a soft fine.

 

However, I will post comparisons between the two when they show up. I can't wait

For what they are, Platinum 14k SF nibs are very nice. With no pressure the line is very thin and it gives a good bit of variation with a bit of pressure.

Unfortunately there won't be anyone home to pay customs this morning, but it means I can pick it up tomorrow (Saturday). I'm so excited!!!
