Baystate Blue

Love it, but wish I could use it more. It fades and is finicky.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Give your honest opinion on it. Love or hate?

Neither?

I use it in a Pelikano Jr. and one day carelessly left the section to soak. Result: two-toned section. Normal section for comparison.

Ugly color, just too bright. Seems to be a fussy ink, also: I spill enpough drops when refilling or flushing a pen that I want an ink I can clean easily.

One of my favorite inks. Love the bright, bold color. I've dedicated a Platinum Preppie fine point for its use. Haven't tried it in any other pen yet, not because of the worry, but just because I've got too many other inks I want to use! BSB in. The BSB Preppie starts immediately and flows well. Never had problems with it, even after sitting unused for a week.

Favorite pen/ink pairings: Edison Brockton w/EF 14K gold nib and Noodler's 54th Massachusetts; Visconti Pinanfarina w/EF chromium conical nib and Noodler's El Lawrence; Sheaffer Legacy w/18k extra fine inlaid nib and Noodler's Black; Sheaffer PFM III fine w/14k inlaid nib and Noodler's Black; Lamy 2000 EF with Noodler's 54th Massachusetts; Franklin Christoph 65 Stablis w/steel Masuyama fine cursive italic and DeAtramentis Document Blue; Pilot Decimo w/18k fine nib and Pilot Blue Black; Franklin Christoph 45 w/steel Masuyama fine cursive italic and Noodler's Zhivago; Edison Brockton EF and Noodler's El Lawrence; TWSBI ECO EF with Noodler's Bad Green Gator.

No. I find BSB too glarey for my tastes. It is a pretty color - but not for a page of sentences. I could appreciate it more as color in a drawing, used judiciously.

There is such a thing as too bright.

Neither. It's the sort of ink where I've thought of buying a bottle several times but always thought better of it. Lisa's description "glarey" is perfect, IMHO. Pilot Iroshizuku Asa Gao is about as vibrant as I can handle, and I've written a page in Asa Gao before and found it a little too bright in that context, so you can imagine how far over-the-top BSB seems to me.

I know my id is "mhosea", but you can call me Mike. It's an old Unix thing.

Love the bright in your face color.

Hate the staining and potential damage.

Only use it in a dedicated pen, Pelikan 200 Translucent Blue, which is already that color.

I love it. Use in a Noodlers Ahab blue demo with a TWSBI broad nib. My favorite color.

When I don't use it for a few months I miss it.

Then I use it again and realize why I didn't use it for a few months.

I love the vibrancy of the color and I have never had flow issues when diluted 4 parts BSB to 1 distilled water. Bleed through on cheap paper can be an issue. I used it in a dedicated Estie J with a stub nib for two years with no hassles other than the expected staining. It is now in a dedicated Ahab which now has a glorious blue filling system. Half way through a 4.5 ounce bottle and counting.

+1 on using it with a dedicated blue Konrad. No problems so far (about 8 months).

I use this as my paper saturation, bleed through and ghosting tester. I used to test some old 1900 vintage ledger paper and it is amazing.

Definitely a BSB Selective fan.

I like it, but there's other blues I'm more likely to turn to, and like other people I limit it to a pen that can be dedicated to it.

I suspect, though, that when I get a hankering for spring weather it will make a reappearance.

Love the colour, works well in my Shaeffer calligraphy pens. Has clogged my other pens but I do love how the colour stands out when I make notes. Isopropyl alcohol get rids of the stains on my hands and any spills. I am just now looking for other waterproof inks, besides black, that won't clog my pens.

I've been using it everyday for the past 2 weeks. Now whenever I look at another blue ink they all just seem so dark in comparison. I don't use it in any pen other than a Pilot 78G though since that pen is inexpensive, writes well, and can easily taken apart for cleaning.

While I love the color, it does bleed through and feather for me. Not so much on nicer paper like Rhodia, but the ink really spreads out and through inexpensive copy that I have to use at work. I know people have said diluting it will help with that while not really taking away from the vibrancy of the color but I haven't had the chance to experiment with that yet.
