Force,

It may be a bit late but I have only just read this post.

Did you get a new spring clip for your Carene?

I have one spare here if you would like it with my compliments. Its gold coloured by the way. Just PM me details where to send it.

I'm seriously considering a Carene as my next pen. How do the broad write? I normally prefer mediums or fines however I don't own a broad on any thing better a Lamy.

If you like wet pens they are lovely and smooth. Make sure you have a good stock of ink mind. Not forgetting if you don't get on with it and you buy new or mint S/H you can always send it to Waterman for exchange at no cost other than secure postage.

Jeff, PM sent

@Force

Thank you for all the images. May I ask what do you use to polish the pens and to get that amazing polish on the nib.. I just got a used Black Carene from ebay listed as lots of pocket wear and he was not lying even the nib is scratched but it works flawlessly, I will however would like to give it a polish and get rid of all the scratches on the pen and try to make the nib looks as pretty as yours (that did not sound right! lol).

I just don't know if I need power tools? (I have a Dremel) and what things to buy to start the polishing job.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

HI jadehawk,

I do not use powertools for anything. It's all elbow grease.

To polish the lacquer on caps and barrels I use T-Cut Original. It's a very fine abrasive used to polish dull bodywork. I apply the paste with old cotton T Shirts or household dusters as polishing cloths. The final polish being done with a jewelers gold cloth which is impregnated with rouge.

I use silver polish or lately, Autosol Metal polish on the gold nibs applied with cotton buds. The final polish being done again with a jewelers gold cloth.

To hold the nib and stop it moving around I either use an old Carene grip or a wood block with a small screw inserted to act as a stop.

All everyday available products.

Excellent.. I ordered some 3 step pen polishing (bleep) on ebay few hours ago (had lots of good reviews). I'll give those a try, if that fails then I'll order the items you listed, thank you very much for the info..

I had hoped to work others but now that I have retired I just don't have the time

When I worked I found a little time for pen projects to get my mind off of work issues. After retiring there are so many things to do. It seems I ignored many small jobs, and now they must be taken care of. One more irony of life. :)
