Carene Project Looms

D.ick, it is the spring clip which holds the cap in place. If you have a Carene, look at the ring on the section and you will see its 2 ears sticking out through it. I will take a close up picture tomorrow for this thread.

I am in the process of 3D modelling (Solidworks) the Carene and all its parts which will show both clear through views and a cross section.

Down to bare bones with this one.

Good morning Force, is it how the brass base look like after the lacquer has been taken off, right? Looks attractive even without any lacquer...

Yes, I was only thinking the same this morning. I once saw one in this condition on ebay which the seller described as a factory test piece which was rubbish, he had only removed the lacquer or someone had.

As an update I should have one pen complete this weekend. I have used another make of spray on this pen and given it many coats including undercoats.

Looking forward to see the result! It is so strange that companies do not put the ring on the end of the barrel, where the lacquer coating is vulnerable at most. Such small thing could stop the chipping of lacquer off. Also would be interesting to see how a polished brass barrel will look like.

sorry team, I am re-working the cap. I am spraying this time and the problem is the cap ring. It cannot be removed and is difficult to mask. There is a build up of paint in this area which looks poor once the masking (tape) is removed. The pens I have worked before have been hand painted when it is much easier to accomplish a good line under microscope.

I am configuring another method of masking. I may try cling film because its got to be thin.

Or this,

I would suggest just plain Petrol jelly, or Vaseline, as we call it here.

Ref the problem spraying the cap and all that overspray.

I stayed away from applying any liquid to the ring instead running a slither of Frogtape over the ring then set up an over tube to absorb all excess paint. Before removal of the tape I ran around the edge with a scalpel. No pictures yet, I am letting it harden off for a day or so before handling.

Hi

Did you use the rattle can to spray or decant it and use an airbrush.

You got a first class result though whichever method you used.
