Thanks Hari. Very informative post.

I do have Deccan Advocate Junior which is the best Indian pen along with Deccan Bullet Junior ( have only Juniors due to small hands). Even better than costlier Author.

Please have write ups about other Deccan models also.

Thank you. I agree, definition of terms like better and best is personal and subjective, rarely universal. I have already documented on FPN, most of the Deccan models from 2007 onwards, a google search might reveal the threads.

Best

Sorry. These are just my personal opinions, which may or may not correlate with that of others.

Ofcourse Hari. I will try to find out your threads.

Hari...during these 10 years, have you noticed any change in feeders in the Advocates that you have...? There was one shift I think sometime around 2008...my Advocates tell me this...I will put up the pics of my Advocates shortly...in the meantime, could you please enlighten us on the feeder issue?

shrujaya

Writing and posting about fountain pens exclusively on www.jaisiri.blogspot.in ... recent posts on Hema Pens (Hyderabad), Haul at Majestic (Bangalore), and Asoka Pens (Tenali)...

There has been a change.

The early feeders had an extra air channel/groove running underneath the feeder and also some extra fins hidden inside the section. Later they switched to the conventionally shaped feeders. availability issues.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Hari

Nice and detailed, as usual, with lovely pics. I have an Advocate purchased in 2011 and it is one of the few Indian ED pens I keep rotating more than usual. It has a good nib, better than most contemporary Indian pens, but I would not put it in my top 5 Indian nibs. Of course, this is strictly my opinion and YMMV.

I have the green ripples one. Nice classic design. Love the way the clip is slightly slipped down.

I bought this pen purely for that classic design and nice length.

Cheers.

  • 1 year later...

Is there an online retailer that sells these? I've only been able to get them from FPN members that live in India.

I am not aware. FPN members should be fine. Same as buying online and using paypal. HTH

Hari, my friend had bought this for me last week from Deccan in Abids (just got it in hand today morning) and they confirmed that this is "Onyx Advocate Round Top"; I think this is the newer model of Advocate..very similar to the 2009 with steel jacket covering model..Pictures are:

Nice. I was there last month, they had plenty of the Flat top versions displayed. This plain ebonite rounded ends version I have not seen in flesh yet. Looks good. Enjoy!

I've just been enjoying my several-year-old Deccan this week. It is one of the really large brushed ebonite round-tops, with an enormous gold-toned "Iridium Point" (not IPG) nib. I have to say it is one of the most pleasureful pens I have. It writes smoothly, without vices, and once I adjust to the size and balance, it does wonders for my handwriting. I use it unposted, since the pen is so huge that if I posted the cap I would have to rest the cap on my shoulder while I was writing. The nib has a certain softness to it due to its sheer size, but no real flex, so it's great for my general writing. A bit too medium and wet for journals, though. And of course the capacity is enormous.

If I remember correctly it was hari who introduced me to these pens. This and a few other Deccans have remained go-to members of the rotation, and among the few pens I really look forward to using. May Deccan prosper!

That must be the Deccan Masterpiece. Deccan pens are very well made and made to last.

Are modern Advocates available with the steel jacket on the cap or was this feature only available on the older version?
