First of all, why are you trying to put me on a deserted Island in the first place? Being deserted means people used to be there and left it because of probably a really good reason. It having that one lone palm tree is the first clue as to how bad the place must be. Second being that the tree is a palm tree indicates that it is hot. Do you know how much I hate the hot tropical climate? Women I have dated have said "wouldn't it be wonderful to live in Hawaii"? No it wouldn't be, cause it's always hot. AAAAANNndnnd your in the middle of a lot of water filled with sharks and piranhas and kraken. You cant even stick your foot in the water without being dragged in and snapped in half by the enormous beak of said kraken.

The only ink I would find that would be tolerable in these unhappy and extreme conditions would be Montblanc Midnight Blue because the quality of paper you have would be just about the world's worst. You would have to cut that one tree down, chew it into pulp, press it between two flat rocks that you most likely would have to make. Finding really flat rocks would be near impossible since they rarely exist in nature. I'm not going to your island. No sir.

Oh, I forgot ....... 1.

Diamine Onyx Black, and 1/10 on the stress scale.

And yes, I do use plenty of other inks (currently have a sample of Diamine Jade in one pen, and another filled with Diamine Midnight) but I survived for over twenty years using only black, so I could do it again without worrying (I currently have far more pressing issues that are worth worrying about)

Waterman Blue-Black.

3 for the second question. I would be quite happy with it as my only ink.

Sheaffer's Skrip blue black. About 95% of ink used.

I wouldn't be bothered at all if all other inks ceased to exist. This ink is my life long favorite.

+1 Sheaffer Skrip blue black - its wonderful stuff especially in my sheaffer pen

Parker Penman Sapphire Blue

As far as I know there were no boutique or speciality ink manufacturers when I was a kid, or teenager, or later. I went through bottles of Quink, Skrip and Cross, occasionally Montblanc or Pelikan, always blue, black, or blue/black except for a few odd Skrip colors. The day I found Penman Sapphire was the end of choices, I could live happily ever after on an island, a desert, or mountain top, with a bottomless bottle of this magic potion.

1/10

I suppose someday I would wish to mix in a drop of Penman Ebony, but I don't think I'd really care.

I surprised myself when I thought about this question. I expected to name a steady blue-black, or a standby like Diamine Graphite, but I realized that for me, the "only one" would be Visconti Turquoise (Acquamarine). It's been a favorite, though not a daily writer, off and on, for more than 20 years. Sometimes I go months without using it, then can't seem to get enough, and it always make me happy. Almost all of my pens like it too.

Noodler's bulletproof black, and a 2 for annoyance.

I'll say the same.

Noodler's Black is my favorite ink but by no means the only ink (brand or color) I use daily, and while I might be able to use Noodler's Walnut or Montblanc Permanent Blue or some other color "forever," I would not like to draw with those inks. So for the, ah, versatility of purposes, I'd have to go with Noodler's Black. I imagine I'd get pretty good at drawing palm trees, sand, and the watery horizon.

1. Like Greg, it would be Aurora Black. Which is kind of funny, because I didn't ever really like using black inks - boring. But this ink is so good, I'm happy to use it.

2. 4-5 - I like a fair number of colors and ink properties, but I wouldn't want to drive myself crazy. If you had said "only one single malt"...

The MBBlBk island will be the place to be! We have arguably the only ink we need (ignore what those other islands say) and a Hello Kitty pirate flag (thanks Pelikan Edelstein Topaz island, you can visit any time). I predict we will be industrialised by summer... well, a 'still is all the industry we need.

I want to say Visconti Blue, but I would probably end up Air-Corps Blue Black or ESSRI.

I would say around a 7-8. I'd want to see a different colour soon.

Iroshizuku Asa-gao, and 8. Although on a desert island I might not have much need for multiple colours, in my current life I do find them very practical. Red to contrast with printed black text; different colours in general for simple design sketches, or to add emphasis to a particular note.

About the ink: it's a beautiful, well-behaved, practical blue ink. Very nice.

  • 4 weeks later...

If I could chose only one, that would be Diamine Imperial Purple, I could do with that, but being alone in an island....

1. Private Reserve Midnight Blues. If I've only got one ink it has to be conservative, but a black is *too* conservative.

2. 8/10. I've got oodles of pens because I suffer from "Ooh! Pretty! Want!". The same applies with ink.

Noodler's Kung Te-Cheng without question. I looked at my ink use logs and have had at least one pen inked with this for years. I have a TWSBI mini classic 1.1mm in my pocket with this ink right now.

I love different inks so my stress level may fluctuate between 2 and 8.

Change is not mandatory, Survival is not required.
