Bottles That You Will Never Finish

Yesterday I found some old Noodler's bottles in my desk and filled two pens with them: Black Widow and Tienanmen. I guess that's two more bottles that have to bo on this list. Or maybe I'll wait some more years - maybe my preferences have changed until then.

Greetings,

Michael

I'd say my Bay State Blue and my Bay State Cranberry. I used them both during my desk pen period, in Esterbrook dip-less pens, but haven't since then. Everything else gets used, but all of my inks are from full blue to black black, with some blue-blacks in there too.

I do think they make a beautiful mix that isn't Concord Grape.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

true, I mixed them for quite awhile. In the end, my tastes have gravitated to vintage that I didn't the BS to stain, I changed jobs and am in an environment where the furniture is too nice for BS accidents, and ...I'm just not using them. I'll keep a bit of each but would happily pass most of it on.

I have a lot of inks. I have inks I don't like. However, I have learned - the hard way - to never say "never." I am ready for the Zombie Apocalypse! Hope it never happens, but I am ready. :P

No kidding. I've given away bottles and then had to repurchase them to use in my tests or reviews.

Too bad there isn't a place to trade unwanted inks here. I've seen some inks that I would happily take off other people's hands.

Well, I started a thread that if you list what you want to trade, I don't suppose it would hurt. We have a thread for swapping samples. I think the best place for it would be the classifieds because once the ink is gone, it can go off the list, but for now, lets give it a try.

Montblanc Oyster Grey. I tried to give it a second chance in a 78G recently and it just is way too light. Like a 4h pencil lead. Used less than 5 mils of this 80ml bottle. Might as well throw it down the drain.

Parker Quink. I bought a couple of bottles, but I'll never use them. They're all washed out and wispy. Don't think too much of my Waterman inks, for the same reason.

  • 2 weeks later...

Dragon's Napalm - can't be mixed, and although I use a bunch of red I'm not sure if i can dedicate a whole FP to it rather than using a cheapo red rollerball (which lays down a redder line anyway!)

funny how as soon as i post this, it becomes my most used ink by being mixed with some watermans purple and cross black (depths of space with a dash of nebula)

Don't throw them out! Share them! Please. I did the thread above and so far no one has posted. You can always send it to me and I'll find it a good home.

Someone might love this if you'd offer it in the Pay It Forward thread. Then it isn't wasted but you don't have to look at it. Or check out amberleadavis' trading thread. Find it a home.

Hi,

Could you please post the link?

I am interested in knowing more about this as I have some ink I don't use.

Thanks

Joe

Interesting. Could you post a picture of this?

I use a lot of MB Royal and Midnight blues, I can get through a bottle of each in about 6 months, I can get through a bottle of Sailor Jentle Blue quite quickly, MB Jonathan Swift too... these inks seem to have their place in my array of uses. Other colours I have more of a problem with; It might be a colour that I like bit I just can't quite find a use for.

Diamine Oxblood, Monaco Red, Herbin 1670 Rouge Hematite.

I like these reds, but I just don't use very much red. When I mark up I tend to use greens because I sometimes write with them and always have one to hand, or a particularly zingy blue.

Pelikan Edelstein Saphire, Herbin Belu Neut and Eclat de Saphir, Pelikan Royal Blue and blue-black.

I just have a lot of similar colours, I like all of the above but struggle to find a place for them amongst my regular blues.

I'm sure there are many more, but Herbin 1670 Rouge Hematite would have to be my favourite ink which sees almost no time in a pen.

What do you have, and like, but struggle to use? What is the one ink in your collection that you would not want to loose, but only very rarely gets used?

I'd have to say the same for my bottle of Diamine Oxblood.

It's a beautiful ink, but I just don't use it enough.

Same for my bottle of Iroshizuku Shin-kai, Asa-gao, Kon-peki and Ama-Iro.

Bought them all because they're really beautiful, but didn't realize that I would only have 1-2 pens at any point of time inked with blue ink...

I am now replacing every word with "Iroshizuku". You're looking very Iroshizuku today! Iroshizuku to you too!

I don't know what it is about Noodler's 54th Massachusetts. Some days I love it... others, it's just meh. As a student, my paper is always changing. I think I like it more on ink resistant paper with a dryer nib. Idk, it's an odd one.

Agree with this. Although, as a lawyer, there are some niches at work that this ink fills pretty well. 54th Mass is one of the more well-behaved bulletproof inks, and it doesn't smear like some of the other Noodler's. I've found myself reaching for it when I need to take permanent notes, sign stuff, etc. I just ordered a bottle of Legal Blue, and I'm liking that ink as well.
