Goulet Nibs And Pretty Colored Pens

Are there any pens (other than Noodler's) that have pretty colors and will fit the Goulet #6 nib? I have an Ahab and I do like it, but it is a bit too thick for me. I LOVE my Goulet 1.1 Italic stub nib in it though! Noodler's doesn't really offer very many pastel color pens that appeal to me (and I don't really like the demonstrators), and while they have an impressive color collection, I really want a pastel blue, pink or purple pen.

 

I love the feminine and light pastel blue, pink and lavender Plaisir pens, and how delicate and thin they are. I prefer writing with a thinner pen, it is more comfortable in my hands. Will a Goulet #6 nib fit in a Platinum Plaisir Fountain Pen? I am guessing it won't as the pen is Japanese and the nib is German, but I thought I would ask some people who actually know instead of me just guessing.

 

I don't consider myself very picky about pens (yet) as I am still learning a lot, but aesthetics matters to me a lot. I would pay more to have a pretty pen in a color that is appealing to me and then purchase a better nib to go with the pen. Also the pen has to be able to use bottled ink, and I don't mind buying a converter if necessary.

 

My price range is under $50.

Have you explored a Konrad by Noodler? A bit slimmer than an Ahab but will take the Goulet # 6, if I am not mistaken.

Thank you for the suggestion Randal! I have looked at the the Konrad a lot because they are slimmer, but I am not a fan of the colors they offer and I don't like the squared ends, I prefer round. I may try one down the road, but I am not eager to get one unless they come out with some color that I adore.

 

Color is a really big deal to me. Which is awesome in inks - there is every hue and shade imaginable! But the pens tend to be the same dark colors - which are also cool, but I really like pastels a lot and they seem to be rarely offered. I am debating just getting the Plaisir and seeing if I like the way it writes...but I hate to splurge on something if I won't really love it.

 

I am ordering a couple Preppies to test out with some sample inks and depending on the way the Preppies write will influence my decision on the Plaisir. I think the Plaisir is basically a fancier Preppy, so it should give me an idea how it will perform for me.

I've been pondering the same question, a #6 Goulet or Montevedre nib with a cheaper pen. Apart from the Konrad, I don't know what else is available. Hope to see what others say!

Pilot and Sailor make their own nibs, and I think Platinum does also, so I don't think a Goulet nib will fit.

 

There is a surprising dearth of nice and pretty pens around, it's quite disappointing for some of us. Asian designs are often much more colorful than US/EU designs (bonus, they're also often low cost), and there seem to be more pretty patterns in vintage pens especially colored celluloids like Esterbrook, so I've started gravitating to those pens. Chinese pens have downsides (you practically have to be a pen repairer to get some of them working), but there's also lots of decent low cost Chinese options out there.

 

Have you looked at the Pilot Prera?

Take my advice with a grain of salt, but here's what I can suggest:

 

I have a Nemosine Singularity, which is a demonstrator. It's a really pretty and durable pen, but I think the nib is no good and I just haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. However, I did email Goulet and ask them if their nibs would fit as a replacement and they said yes. I know that you weren't looking for a demonstrator, but I found this other pen by them that looks to be a pastel blue (at least to me), isn't too pricy, and has the same #6 nib as mine:

With my Nemosine, I would say that the thickness is about comparable to writing with a Safari, but the section is round instead of in a triangular shape.

If you like color, the Goulet nib will fit Edison's. As well the Ranga may not be for you but a Goulet nib will fit the Ranga. Initially I think the Goulet's were looking at their own nib, and piggy backed on the Noodlers line. But more and more pens will fit the Goulet nib. I've got a Ahab on the way and will fit a couple of Edison's as well.

Jinhaos also fit a Goulet nib if you can find one in the colour you want

Edison and Ranga pens come (as far as I know) with Jowo nibs as is, which means they're already the same as Goulet's.

I believe the #6 Goulet is a JoWo. Many pens use these, or comparable. I've got both the 1.1 and 1.5 in Konrads and Danitrio Cum Laudes.

If you really want to find something special check out Edison Pens. Go to their material samples photos and I'm sure you find something you love. He uses the same nib as his steel option. (click on How things work, click on materials sample gallery)

In your price range, the only pens that I know of that fit the #6 nib are the Noodler's pens and the Jinhao x450 / x750 pens. The Jinhao pens are a bit thinner than the Ahab, but might still be a bit too wide for you. You can find the Jinhaos in a whole bunch of colors though, so there might be one out there that you like.

 

If you're looking for other pastel-colored pens, you might like the Diplomat Traveller pens. http://www.mydiplomatpen.com/Traveller.aspx The nib doesn't look like a #6, though, so you probably couldn't swap nibs.

There are a lot of pens that can use the Goulet nibs. The Nemosine Singularity is one example. It comes in some nice colors.

Thank you everyone for all your replies! I am grateful for everyone's input and you all helped me in my quest!

I am new to this wonderful world of fountain pens, and I am pleasantly surprised to have received so much kind advice and see so many people jumping in to help each other out. It really is a community here and I am ever so grateful to be a part of it!

 

I have done research on all your suggestions (took me a while!) and after much consideration I have decided to get the Nemosine Fisson. It has great reviews for the .6mm nib and I adore the soft blue color.

 

I am also very attracted to the Diplomat Traveller but they are more than the Fisson so they are on my wish list for now (but my birthday is coming up in April...hmmm)

Ooh, I have a Goulet nib too that's hanging about unused. That Fisson appeals to me, too.
