I have not used it myself, but from the name I would say: "Royal Akkermanblauw uitwasbaar" (Uitwasbaar translates to Washable, so perhaps it is also erasable?????)

It is the one that stands apart on the top of their colour matrix on the website.

Thank you so much!

I was confused, at first, because the color sampler in post # 381 on the thread Akerman inks from the Netherlands, which I finally found after posting on this wonderful thread, didn't list "Royal Akkermanblauw uitwasbaar"

I took your advice and went to the website where the ink above has just been added.

Mauritshuis Magenta is named after the Mauritshuis Museum. It is one of the prettiest museums in the Hague (probably the country) - it's relatively small and houses an astonishing collection of Golden Age paintings. Most famous is the collection of Vermeers, including Girl With The Pearl Earring, and Fabriutius's The Goldfinch, which has become famous (also) thanks to Donna Tartt's novel of the same name. Mauritshuis was of course the House of Maurits, who was Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen - governor of Dutch Brazil in the 17th century. Interestingly enough the Netherlands used to have colonies in Brazil for a very brief time, from 1630 to 1654, before they were ceded to Portugal.

Maurits must have made a truckload of money in order for him to commission the building of this beautiful mini-palace. Mauritshuis has recently been completely renovated and has been expanded with a neighbouring building, connected to the main House by an underground area that includes the new lobby. All this happened under the leadership of the American director of the museum, Dr Emilie Gordenker.

Groenmarkt Smaragd, lit. Greenmarket Emerald refers to another nice building in the Hague. Or actually, it refers to a street in the city centre where markets were held since the 13th century (Groenmarkt), but you will find the 1565 city hall there, which is still in use as a wedding location. Some other historic buildings line the street, which is very close to the government area Binnenhof.

Interlude - Inks Akkerman did not make

While researching all these the Hague references, I came across a few that would have been suitable as ink names, or could be in the future. So just to blow off some steam here are a few inks that were not, as it were.

Ah, I will have to travel to the Netherlands really soon! I must see The Hague and Rotterdam with my own eyes. Maybe even Amsterdam. I must go there. I must. And all because of you and Akkerman.

Is there some link between the museum and the color of Magenta? Please be kind if that should be obvious from the picture; not everyone has correct color vision. :)

I believe the shutters are magenta - in the picture it's best seen in those at ground floor level. I image-googled the color and the match is very good. You can take a look.

'Maybe even Amsterdam', lol ;) Let me know when you're going. If you go in 2015 I will be actually working in the Hague and we might be able to meet up for coffee ;)

That would be nice! We'll meet at the Akkerman store, okay?

Voorhout Violet? Linked to the purle in the 500 Guilder note? Something else?

I love this thread! Thanks to Darcy1978 for the time he has taken to fill us in the color names.
