First Conway Stewart Pen

I saw the new Model 58 in Pen World magazine and was drooling over it for a few weeks. I'm new to the fountain pen obsession and had already bought quite a few great pens, so more or less decided that I wasn't going to buy another expensive pen just yet. But, of course, I made the mistake of visiting the Conway Stewart website, where my eye was drawn to the utterly splendid Churchill fountain pen.

Before I could think twice about it I tried to order the pen from their website, couldn't make the transaction work, phoned the UK and spoke to a helpful person who was able to take my order over the phone. So far I am very impressed with the service and, if the pen is as good as the reviews online, I'm in for a real treat when it arrives. It a fine nib, lever fill, Rioja which looks absolutely gorgeous. Can't wait!

FYI, the 58 is a MUCH smaller pen than the 58. This is a great reference for side-by-side dimensions of most modern CS pens - http://www.mvburke.com/dimensions.htm

Ehhh...if you look at those numbers, I do not quite understand.....

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm still waiting for my Churchill pen and the "helpful person" I spoke to when ordering seems to be ignoring me now. Has anyone else had problems with the service at Conway Stewart?

Regards,

Kevin

This is a dilemma, so send me a PM.

Have you paid for it?

If you're down in Australia, I suppose the pen could be stuck in customs? You would know more about that than I would.

If that is unlikely and CS won't reply to you, call your credit card issuer and let them take care of it. They will probably get you a refund -- or a response from CS.

Thanks, I'll try that!

I would agree. I don't consider myself to be an expert in these matters but I do have some experience in ordering various items from America since even if you get caught with duty and VAT it tends to be somewhat cheaper than purchasing in England. On some occasions I get a surprise and an item can arrive in a week or so on other occasions items have taken up to eight weeks. My advice would be to be patient for a while longer although you haven't mentioned if you have a tracking number or not - I would assume CS wouldn't send a pen that was untracked.

Good luck,

Tim

No, they certainly would've included a tracking number. CS does this even for pens (and parts of pens) sent back and forth for repair or exchange.

Then it isn't looking good, on a few levels. Hoping for the best, but I'd start being pro-active at this point.

It's Arrived! It's taken a full calendar month but it's here now, and it's wonderful. I hadn't realised that when I ordered the pen from Conway Stewart in Britain that they simply passed on the order to an Australian agent, so really it's taken a month to get here from the other side of the country... not the world!

Seeing the pen (I haven't inked it up yet), all is forgiven. It's a thing of beauty and trivial gripes about delayed delivery pale into insignificance next to the joy of owning such a pen!!

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and support, your comments were most helpful.

Kevin
