Pw Akkerman New Smaller Size

To answer Sam Capote's question:

....last week I talked to Vanness on the telephone. Since I could not see any Akkerman inks listed on their website, I asked if indeed the new 60 ml bottles will offered.

I was told that the inks will arrive sometime in the end of February & when the store has the prices worked out, the Akkermans will be listed among their inks.

I'll have to wait until ink shipping season will be upon us here North of the Border,... maybe in early April.

After a round of emails with Paul at Akkerman .... the big bottles are all gone, unless Vaness still has some? .... The new bottles will be out at the end of the month, as reported above. The price with VAT is 15 Eu per bottle. Price without VAT is 12.4 Eu per bottle. The shipping is the big difference! Shipping for 1 bottle is 20 Euros (that's more than the bottle). Shipping for up to 30 bottles is 50 Euros. So, orders of 30 are the best purchase price. The cost comes out to about $20 / bottle shipped to the US.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Can I say something about the price point now? Seems to me that there is no price gouging happening with the smaller bottles, just a huge increase in the cutness factor.

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

That's definitely a reasonable price. That would make it possible to pick a few different colors. I can't wait until they are available!

Has anyone used the new, smaller bottles? Having just had ink flow out the top of a sampler vial when I stuck a large nib in I wonder if the neck of the new bottle is sufficiently large.

That should not be an issue. The necks are wide enough for a stout pen, and you have control over how much ink you let into the neck, so you simply do not fill it all the way up. And if you get too much in in the neck, you just tilt the bottle to move the stopper and let some ink drain back into the reservoir.

I just couldn't resist. On my way to work yesterday, I popped in at the Akkerman store. It is correct that the old 150 ml bottles are no longer available. I bought one of the new ink bottles, in the color Akkerman Blauw. I payed €15, which is a bit stiff when you compare it to the 150 ml bottles, but they were really very cheap.

But then again, the difference in price is about the same as 3 beers in a bar. Those last me an hour and the Akkerman bottle lasts me more than a year.

As you can see in the second picture, the neck of the new bottle is slightly smaller than that of the old one.

This puts it in term easy to understand. Well worth the money then! :D

To me, it looks only slightly shorter, but otherwise broader.

And let me add to the price discussion, what I found out only today: 35 ml De Atramentis ink cost 12.50 €.

Thanks for those actual photos. I'm just going to contact Paul and order "a slew" of the smaller bottles...but after the winter freeze season is ending.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

I managed to ge a Parkpop purple from Vanness in the larger size completing the large size bottles that I had wanted. I did enquire about #4 but they were out. I have 12 of the bigger bottles. I may well buy one of the small ones but I have enough Akkerman for quite a while! Also want to add that Vanness did their usual fabulous job of getting it to me...two days from Arkansas to Oregon and VERY well packed! I love the characteristics of these inks, and of course the bottles!

A lot of the "normal" inks are renamed after authors, composers etc and these cost 12.00 Euros instead, and that is -- like for the 12.50 inks -- the official, list-price seen here: http://www.de-atramentis.com/index.php?language=en&=&=&XTCsid=25eadfbc2a11bb5cc355497a4cbdf556. Shipment (at least within Germany is free for orders of 50.00 Euros and more.

But... you can get at least some of them for only 7.99 Euros (free shipping for only 30.00 Euros or more) here: http://seitz-kreuznach.de/tinten-minen-und-refills::c469/

Thanks SOOO much for the link. I wanted to reply to the previous poster about finding DeAtramentis at a reasonable price.. I have ran into the 7.99 Euros (I believe even cheaper) but couldn't find a link to support my claim.

I am still looking for the link where it shows DeA ink at lower than 6 Euros. (I know I've seen it) .. Thanks again.

yes, I know I am weird here -- I'd rather get 30 different inks than just one dozen

Me too, and weird is GOOD! :-)

And I *already* have 30 different inks! (Well, 40 includes 30...)

But smaller bottles, YAY! I'm glad I waited, too! Now I just need to get strong and admit that the postage to the U.S. will be expensive, and just go ahead and get some more ink!

Teachers used to use these bottles to refill desk inkwells, back when students learned script with dip pens.

My Dad had a bottle of ink like that; he was a shorthand reporter, and used a fountain pen. He retired in 1974.

I don't know whatever happened to that pen. I would have loved to have it to use. It would be something of him to hold. I still miss him.

... I see that the picture didn't show up. It was the picture of that 32 oz. bottle of ink.

That's interesting information. I only looked on their own website, and there, all the standard inks (labelled as such) cost 12.50 €. They're not doing themselves a favour, when the inks are much cheaper elsewhere. Or they just don't like sending small quantities to individual buyers.

Well, you're (almost) right: the necks have exactly the same width. The shell is interchangeable. The neck of the new bottle is just slightly shorter. I measured from the edge of the shell to the narrowest part between the neck and the reservoir. The old bottle measures 58mm; the new one measures 55mm.

Best regards, Tim
