Sheaffer Targa Nib

Hello.

So I've been using my newly acquired (old) Sheaffer Targa. After a few lines, the ink ran out. There seemed to be some ink from the feed, but it looks like it cannot keep up with the nib. Eventually, the lines thin out into nothingness. Initially, I thought the nib was bent, but it seems that this is normal.

I suspect the feed to the nib could be slightly blocked, so I am now leaving it in some water with a small amount of soap. By the way, there is no black ink mark in the first photograph, only a reflection.post-110164-0-03292900-1390916323_thumb.jpgpost-110164-0-04536200-1390916069_thumb.jpg

Soak it a L O N G time - overnight if need be. If you have a converter, flush it out, too. If not, hold it nib under running water both directions or use a bulb.

I used a modern Sheaffer converter. It takes a long time to find out if it actually works or not, since I think the problem is with the feed not sucking enough of the ink from the converter. Every few lines I have to manually twist the converter to allow some ink out. Any ideas on the issue?

Sounds like either a bubble in the converter or air channel blocked.

To test, use a cartridge. If that woks then the issue is converter. The solution to that is to flush before filling with water that has a single drop of dish detergent added. Empty and then fill with ink.

If it is not the converter then the most likely culprit is blocked air channel. First step then is an extended regimen of soak and flush.

The issue is not with the converter, as I've previously used it for my Sheaffer 100. I will be getting a few cartridges to check if the problem is as you've described. The old cartridge that came with the pen is very loose and screams "leakage", so I don't think it would be the best idea to refill it.
