Fave Pen-And-Ink Combos

we all have our favorite pen-and-ink matches, and perhaps some matches work better than others, but over time, i suspect we tend to settle on certain inks for certain pens. this afternoon, just for fun, i set up and took this shot of the pens in my current rotation, and the inks that go into each of them. these choices and matches aren't graven in stone (well, maybe 70% of them are), but like many of you, my basic principle is to get an ink that's pretty close to the color of the pen, so i don't have to wonder what's in it. here's my current line-up:

pelikan blue-black in the agatha christie
diamine oxblood in the vacumatic OS
r & k sepia in the oscar wilde
montblanc carlo collodi in the CS marlborough
r & k alt-goldgrun in the onoto magna
pelikan brilliant brown in the faber-castell pernambuco
aurora black in the MB 100th anniversary
here's another look:

Mine are based not only on colour but on "feeling"

Some are old some are new but they're mostly "keepers":

Wow, these are great.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Oh my..that montblanc carlo called is absolutely gorgeous. If I can make a request, can you make a review of that ink? I don't think that there's one in the ink review section and I'm really interested as how that ink behaves and looks!

Edit: Btw, I know that this is off topic but your photography is quite amazing. May I ask what's your camera body and the lens that you use? Primes? Zooms?

I,too try to match the pen a range of colours. In my black Starwalker I've used MB Blue-Black both bottled and cartridge and MB Royal Blue cartridge. I have P.R Chocolate, Noodler's Beaver and Texas Pecan for my brownish pens and MB Burgundy for my red pens. I have a large assortment of blue/blue-blacks the others.

Some times a given ink won't do well in a given pen so I make a note of it and don't use that combo. A side benefit of this is that the pens get flushed regularly when I want to change colours.

hi, many thanks for your kind remarks. there's already a review of the carlo collodi ink here:

and here as well:

i like the ink--a very warm orange-brown. quite expensive, though, and not that easy to find; i'm seeing it on ebay for around $45 a 30 ml bottle.

as for the photography, these days i just use my iphone 5s ;)
