Sheaffer 300 (9316) : An Admiration

So I had a great start with a No-nonsense & a bad setback with Imperial 440 (it's up for tinkering this weekend). I was quite crestfallen when my anticipated 440 performed like a safety pin on paper.

The guys at www.williampenn.net has decided to offer "seconds" at a heavily discounted price, so to motivate myself, I bought a sheaffer 300.

Just received it, and whoa. This pen made me sit up and bore you with a review (for a pretty much entry level Sheaffer).

So please skip if you don't want to read a overwhelmed noob(I'd say initiated) gushing over his new Sheaffer. You have been warned!

Package:

Comes in a rectangular box. Nothing too flashy, but "less is more". Definitely a keeper.

First Impression:

The pen looks really better in life than on pictures. When I picked it up in my hand, it seemed heavy. And I use a waterman harley on rotation ! This thing was definitely heavier than that. However, I popped open the cap, and the pen calmed down in my hands. I dont think it's supposed to be posted, becomes highly top-heavy. But to each, his own

(I could show the white dot and the clip, but wanted to show off the gorgeous body first. Bear with me :))

Nib:

My No-nonsense is a fine, and I do NOT one anther sheaffer fighting for top honors with that. Hence I opted for a Medium. It'll fight for top honors with a waterman graduate, and my first love Schneider Base (closes eyes in a dreamy way, exhales, with a happy, stupid smile ). Ok, enough antics.

(There, I showed off the white dot )

Inside the box:

Apart from the pen? lets see, a manual , warrany card and two cartidges. Relax, the converter is inside the pen.
I'll spare you the pictures this time.

Digging deeper:

So I wanted to dismantle the pen (not the feed), and see. I saw there are some scratches on the converter. It's a screw in converter that fits my No-nonsense. So much win there :D
If I can't make the imperial 440 any better , at least I can salvage the converter (sigh :( )
forgive the angle, friends.

Comparisons

I lured my no-nonsense and 440 out and did a couple of comparison of sorts. Brian Goulet and Teri Morris (tips hat to both) have awesome websites as all of you know, and they do like to give out measurements.

Writing

I wanted to honor the pen's color by selecting pelikan 4001 Royal Blue

Wait, is that a medium? Alas, I don't own a B. Closest I have is a Rotring Tanakor XL. A quick dip later, this is definitely skinnier than XL.

How it writes? Let's just say the Schneider & Waterman got tough competition now. But we like that with our pens, Don't we?

P.S. -> This pen didn't receive any marks, but if you ask me my top four pens, it'll be Schneider,Graduate,NN and this sweet baby in no particular order.

P.P.S. -> that's a pretty long one. Let me know how bored you got.

I got to the very end - good write up. Remember - we were all Noob's once !

I have a RB with the same finish. A very attractive pen. Unfortunately, it is bit short for me to use without posting. Then it is unbalanced by the overly heavy cap. May be the most robust clip Sheaffer makes...

Umm, maybe u could align the pen with your index finger and try in a 45% angle grip ? But that'd probably make changes to your posture.

I can write with this without posting, but only just. My hands are pretty large too (than average Indian standards).

Great write up. I'm a writer, as opposed to a collector, and just recently acquired a Prelude that I am enamored with. The 300 looks like another pen I might need to get my hands on to put in my rotation.

Anirban4u, can you give us an update on life with your 300 now that you've lived with it for a while?
