So here is my new creation and my new go to red. I wanted something with a little more vibrancy them my Monaco Red for this years Christmas cards, and this was perfect. It is what I have always wanted a red to look like. By the way, the paper is HP 32# Premium. Hope you enjoy it.

Are you experiencing any negatives with this mixture? I ask because, usually, 2 brands of ink do not play nice with each other...as I have learned in my ink experiment lessons haha. But I have been interested in a really nice deep dark red and this looks promising!

I know exactly what you mean. However, I have not seen any bad side effects. It does darken with time as I mentioned, but that is a good side effect. No clogging, sediment, turning into paste or separating. And I've been using it since mid December. Monaco red has really good flow, and BSAR tends to run a little dry. This runs in between them somewhere just like you would think.

Sounds as if you have discovered the best ink for your needs. Having used both inks, feel the mixture should work out well for you.

 

Don't you just love the Jinhao pens? The only drawback to most of the Chinese pens is that they seem to see a bit of flow decrease over time. But I have one -- close to an X450 -- that is ground to a very fine italic. It is holding up well and is my favorite note-taking pen. Hope you experience the same good results.

 

Would suggest eventually trying your mix in the Lamy Safari. Would expect a higher flow and better shading as a result.

Thanks Randal. I do get frustrated with flow issues in the Jinhaos, but they are so cheap. I got both those pens for under $5 on ebay. I am definitely going to try out the red in the Lamy one if these days.
