it will be "subbu calling subbu" :)

Deccan will engrave your name on the pen. Dunno why Gem refused, they usually happily agree to engrave names.

ha ha!!! Maybe its because I purchased the pen from someone else?

Does anyone know, is the matte Kuyil limited production? I really love the look of these, and would like to wait to order, but I will pop an order to ASA if they are likely to sell out.

a_m, I really do like the Hawk too. Gem does very very nice work. I just love how the Kuyil mimics the Lamy 2000 look, yet is its own discrete thing.

Take a look at the full-flex modern screw-in nib units on this page:

— 14K Gold for Bexley, Edison, and Gate City —

http://www.richardspens.com/

You must have Java enabled to use this site. Look for the link to custom nibs then scroll down the page.

These are wonderful nibs with full-flex. Pricey though. Does anyone know if pens like the Gama Hawk can take these nibs? Would that be a custom order?

As far as i know kuyil is not LE. However there may be (long?) gaps between production. But then best is to ask the seller. Today i saw the ASA site and it showed two kuyils available.

I am going to get a GEM Gama Kuyil, the flat top/matte version, in April, from ASA. These look like wonderful pens.

I've had several nice e-mail exchanges already with the lead at ASA, and he/they seem very friendly and eager to help!

I went to the post office this afternoon to pick up my Gama Hawk, inspired by Anup's story of this pen. The only difference is that I did not ask to have mine engraved with my name or initials, so it is a stock pen. What a coincidence to receive it on the same day that Anup got his! It is a beautiful pen, and the beaky clip is perfect for it. With the Kuyil it makes a handsome pair of black ebonite pens... I have yet to ink it, but my experience with Gamas is that they're excellent writers out of the box... :D

The clip is really excellent in design and very well complements the overall design of the FP.

I have sent a few e mails and got a very quick response.

I am afraid I will have to buy myself another present.

Just waiting for one last question to be answered - will it take a converter.

Not too bothered either way; but it will be my first eyedropper.

Thanks for the inspiration

I think it will only work as an eyedropper-filled. The whole base of the feed sticks into the barrel - there is nowhere to fit a converter! It's a bit of a hassle compared to filling with a converter - but to compensate you, that whole barrel is the reservoir. It takes four or five times as much as a single converter fill. And they hardly ever burp.

Well, I went to the ASA pen site a few minutes ago and found they are posting prices in USD. The Gama Hawk is $35.00. I also checked the price using the Indian Rupee - 1199. Out of curiosity I used the online currency converter and plugged in 1199 rupees and came up with $19.29.

So, even if I allow for a little wiggle room in the conversion rate, it seems to me that the price increases by 75% if you check it out in U$D.

And that's without shipping costs.$36.00 + is a bit more than I want to pay for an ED pen, even if it is ebonite. Then again, that's just my opinion.

Well, another little bit of concern here. As I scrolled down I saw the Wality/Airmail 69T Clear Acrylic Eyedropper Fountain Pen for sale at Rs 299. That converts to $4.81. On FPRevolution the charge for that pen is $16.00 while at ASAPens the USD charge is $9.00.

So, it seems to me that a purchase made in USD gets charged at least a 75% surcharge.

What do you think about that situation?

I think internet is a wonderful place of transparency. Just uploading certain images and links - for comparative purposes found Gama Supreme being sold by other sellers.

(Gama Hawk or Kuyil is nowhere else to be found other than ASApens.in)

I really think FPN members should research more on the internet before coming to any conclusion.

besides, i think the asapens.in world shipping is nil.

Not directly related to Ebonite pens, I have a view on comparing the prices. As a buyer (BTW, I have experience with all three), it is my choice with whom I buy from and my comfort level with price. As one member has rightly pointed out, Internet is really a wonderful tool for transparency. I think painting someone is always best than others may not be a good idea. For example, if we compare Camlin Elegante, we can find 2 different prices:

http://www.stationerynew.com/camlin-elegante-fountain-pen/p/2610

http://asapens.in/eshop/fountain-pen/camlin-kokuyo-fountain-pen-indian/camlin-kokuyo-elegante-premium-handcrafted-gold-plated-nib-fountain-pen-indian-manufacturer-online

What should one infer here?

A more interesting link is

what would you say?

btw Lamy Safari list price in USA is USD 37

while for India it is INR 1890 (around USD 30 something)

btw, you have nice collection of FPs :-)

Thanks.. My comment was not to compare US and Indian prices. My point was that even in Indian market one can find a lot of variation. If we compare 2 pens in US markets also, one can find that there will be differences especially when one considers the shipping..

For example, I got a Pilot VP for 6630 paying in Indian Ebay with free shipping that came to $105. Similar pens at that point of time were selling at $100-120 + Shipping of around $20.

Another example: If you buy Diamine 80ml ink from a seller in US as compared to Indian seller, you will find that Indian price is almost comparable to the US price without shipping. If you add shipping US price works out costlier. Does it mean that I don't like US seller?

No. I will still buy the ink from him if he has the shade that i am looking for plus if I am going to get something else to amortize my cost. I will buy from the Indian seller when I want only that ink and only that shade. So basically its a choice that one has exercise.

In general, I think it's not a fair comparison to compare US prices and Indian prices. I have bought pens in Europe and HK while on travel and have found that they are always cheaper than buying it in India as import + shipping come into picture.

I am not questioning the issue of different prices from different vendors with different services. That's a given. It's called competition. And I like it. It's also the reason I might pay a little more for the same item from a dealer I know and like rather than one who simply charges less.

The point that I want to make clear is that the same dealer is selling the same item for a VERY different price to someone paying in U.S. Dollars versus someone paying in Indian Rupees. WHY?

If I want to pay dollars instead of rupees why should I pay 75% more to the same seller for the same item? If the difference is shipping, then state that clearly and in the beginning!
