Colorado Pens' House Brand, Liquid Velvet?

Searching the ink folders for "colorado pens," once I filtered out references to the Colorado Pen Club, returned only threads about buying pens and other brands of inks from the store in Denver.

Anyone tried their ink? No fancy names alluding to orchards or oceans or stars or plants. And you get a lot of ink! 90ml for US$13 + shipping.

Here's their pitch (link below):

Liquid velvet

After years of searching and testing, Colorado Pen introduces our own private label ink from deep in the heart of the Austrian Alps. Drawing this velvety, specially formulated ink into your favorite fountain pen or Eco-rollerball is a pleasure. Forming letters and jotting off a quick signature is enthralling.

Combine the ancient art of fountain pen writing with state-of-the-art in ink technology. This revolutionary formula contains a lubricant to clean and protect your nib, and reduce clogging. Conveniently, this formula resists drying if your pen is idle for short durations.

Choose from ten bright colors. Vibrant and enjoyable ink with a hint of present day tech.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I haven't tried it but next time I am in San Antonio I will pick up a bottle or two. It is worth a try for the price.

This came up about 18 months ago, I think. I don't want to trudge through the archives, but I'm pretty sure we concluded that it was a relabeled brand. Sheaffer makes inks in Slovenia, and Slovenia is in the Austrian Alps.

These "archives" are apparently not visible to the forum's search function. Neither "colorado pens" nor "liquid velvet" return anything. So no one has invested or tested them recently.

If these are Sheaffer inks, they're a good price but the color selection is different. Sheaffer does not offer a burgundy or a pink in bottles although pink and yellow can be had in carts. Sheaffer ink is roughly US$9.00 for 50ml and the CP-LV inks are $13 for 90ml.

That is typical of their mall sales patter (patois?).

Advertising hype is readily transparent to a discerning audience.

That's why I'm going with Monteverde, along with the bottle being identical. That "Austrian Alps" bit could just be a fabrication.

Lagavulin is "liquid velvet." Not ink.

If they made a peat scented ink, I would be too distracted to journal. Especially if they made a 16 year old Islay ink. I wonder what color it would be.

It would be the color of swamp water!

I must have dreamed it, or I'm confusing it with something else.

Sorry

That's a matter of opinion (me, I prefer Highland single malts...).

OK I fell for the ad and bought some of their large black cartridges but they have stopped up 2 of my pens even after wasing them out before using the ink. I had to soak one in ethanol to get it to work again. I think it had shellac in it.

I have a bottle of the blue ink from Colorado and love it. I ordered a bottle of Monteverde green.

The bottles look identical. Both inks are great, smooth flowing, non feathering on most of my inexpensive papers. Nice products for the price.

I have been dealing with Colorado for years (among other stores as well, no affiliation) and find them to be customer oriented and friendly. Very good source for refills of all kinds.

Your mileage may vary.

Just my two cents.

Regards

Be Happy, work at it. Namaste
