None of the above if purchased new.

True, buying used is always a good thing and you can find bargains at a quite reasonable price.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

In the sense that one feels their money was well spent - esthetics, workmanship, writing qualities, ergonomics, customer service.

Difficult question, given that there is a limited choice of models in your list. Sheaffer pens offer very good value for money, but they can't compete with the very best, so it depends on what you're after.

The "51" defeated the M800 in the final.

I believe there were posts on FPN that linked to it.

Bill...Thanks, I just couldn't remember the final pair.

I for one, am finding the voting and out come of this poll VERY INTERESTING, from a number of perspectives...

One question...what is the most expensive and least expensive pen in the list. The Paragon comes in at about $1000, right?

Hi Bill

It depends which version of the Arte Italiana Paragon you are chosing, if it is the Arco you are going to pay 860€ and if it is the classic black version you are going to pay 565€. Also a Burkina 360 costs 840€. I would advise to purchase Omas in used condition.

I voted for Pelikan M800. To be fair though I probably shouldn't have voted at all because I haven't even seen the others, except for the Montblanc. I guess there won't be many here that have owned the entire list and maybe most respondents haven't owned many.

The reason I voted M800 is that it is my favourite pen. Love it! It feels big, sturdy and luxurious and the nib is an absolute joy (see avatar!) It's competition on my desk consists of a Lamy 2000, a Pelikan M215, a reconditioned Parker 51, a vintage 1961 Parker duofold and a humble Parker Jotter. The M800 was the most expensive and is the one I enjoy the most.

Good Evening, Georges...

(Okay...it is evening--1730 here in the US...midinight or so in Europe...)

xe.com is showing a Euro equal to a bit over US$1.31 right now

So an Arte Italiana is about US$1135, the plain black is about US$750.00 and the Burkina is a touch over US$1100.00.

These are all in the "Peg would kill me" price points...I doubt even the used prices would be much lower...

Bill...who will stick to the odd Legacy and the PFM he has...

Considering that the Legacy can be purchased for much less than any of the others (often for less than $100), the wonderful inlaid nibs, and the range of nibs available (F, M, B, S, others?) it's hard to beat, imho!

I agree with Michael--plus, none of the pens on this poll fit my idea of bang/buck. The Legacy is the only one I've owned, or will buy.

There are many members on here for whom this is pure fantasy--me included.

Hi Bill

I paid 320€ for my arte italiana last saturday and I baught it in used condition at my favorite penshop. So if you look good places of where to buy used pens you can have better deals than on ebay. This weekend saturday I am going to buy a 360 from Omas in used condition from the same shop.
