Visconti Van Gogh Maxis - The Original 14Kt

I think this is a general issue with Italian pens.. And other Italian products as well... Take Scatola del Tempo for example, everyone says "It retails for xx, and we offer it for yy".

But there's never a store who sells at retail when there is plenty available. As soon as the availability drops, some vendors think the product instantly should raise MSRP.

Where buying a new Pelikan or MB will never be widely available for 50% or 65% off the suggested MSRP. (if you do know a place, please tell me  ;) )

I'm not going to throw names around, but I think we all know there's a lot of 'rare' Italian stuff easily available at certain places. So you tell me, are these products rare, or just artificially pushed to a high price?

On topic:
The van Gogh's are about the only Viscontis who don't do anything for me. I like the concept, and appreciate the art and idea behind them, but they just don't call my name :)

The new Van Gogh's don't do anything for me, but I do like the old Van Gogh Maxis.

Thanks so much for the photos Ghost Plane, beautiful stuff. I was in search for an original maxi for a long time, until yesterday when I found an Australian site that had 15 original Maxi's in stock with 14k nibs for 187 AUD or about 140 USD, this is a great deal as they were up to 250 USD when being sold! I have ordered a musk medium nib and a vanilla broad. I am not 100% sure if they ship internationally but I assume they would. Here is the site for anyone after one http://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Public/catalog/searchresults.aspx?brands=Visconti&s=phl#&&/wEXAQUNc2VhcmNocmVzdWx0cwUCMjCCeO94lGC0gMGgX/x248Mv/ZXfNA==

Thank you for this tip off, Sham! I don't have the finances at the moment for a Visconti but will now be checking Peter's of Kensington regularly in the hope that more relatively cheap Viscontis show up over the next few months (fingers and toes crossed for a midi Homo Sapiens)

It's quite nice out here in the sunshine...

I actually spoke to the lady in the pen department by the name of Mary, she said she is in the process of ordering some homo sapiens anniversary sets. both the midi and the maxi. they come with a free two pen leather Visconti case and travelling inkwell. So its about 250 dollars extra free value! I would recommend one of these I picked mine up from Bryant. The only downside with the steel ages is they are captive converter fillers, which is basically an unremovable converter glued inside the barrel that is inaccessible. I feel quite aggravated that Visconti market it as a piston filler when it is not; it is almost deceitful. It is simply a converter attached to an external blind cap as to mimic the look of a true piston filler. It is basically all the negatives of a piston filler and the negatives of a converter with none of the positives. IE hard to maintain, non user serviceable and does not hold much ink. You will be in need of the travelling ink well that at least comes supplied with the anniversary adition. My steel age Maxi only holds .9-1.0 ML of ink when the bronze age holds over 1.5

+1 for Bryant (check Susanna at Giardino as exchange & shipping might be in your favor) as he's authorized Visconti, gets hordes of consignment sales & can make sure the nib is excellent before shipping.

Okay, I finally got around to taking a picture of my Van Gogh Maxis (and my Evergreen Midi). Sadly, the cap band on the Sandal CAME OFF while I was sitting in a meeting! It fell on the ground and I looked around but was limited in my ability to look because of the meeting. Couldn't find it. When I asked Visconti's Canadian rep about it, they said they couldn't get a replacement for me. Sigh.

Turns out I was mistaken. I do not have two Musks, I have two Blue Oceans!

Wonderful collection Amble63, send your pen for repairs, it can (and must) be done, the canadian rep was wrong. (did it myself not long ago)

Beautiful, Amble!

I agree - some very nice pens there Amble. My Vanilla Van Gogh Maxi arrived today and it's certainly not monochromatic as I feared but not as colourful as some that I've seen. I like it. It seems to write a bit dry - will that change with a bit of use?

Maybe it's fortunate that I have no more room in my pen boxes for any more, because I'd very likely be hunting around for some of the others in the series.

You can always get another pen box first :D I find there is always additional places for pens to be purchased and stored.

Thanks, I will try. By the way, I very much enjoy the orange Opera I bought from you!

Ah, it was you! It was a very particular color, monochrome orange, I am glad it has found a new home where it's properly loved :D

I had an old Van Gogh whose trim I had lost exactly as it happened to you, I sent the pen and they replaced the piece so I'm pretty sure it's doable, I suggest you to send 'em an email.

These are normally wet & juicy. Hopefully it flushes to better flow

Mine is extremely wet. If the pen is new it may take a few fills for the flow to normalize.
