this is really a shame. these are gorgeous wraps and there's a lot of interest but having googled them, found what looked like a website but difficult even when translated, gone to their FB page which makes no mention of wraps, gone to E bay which has nothing like this that I can find...reading all the problems above... I'm giving up...

Some info about the fabric that may explain the prices: one reason the wraps are so expensive (and so beautiful) is that a lot of this fabric sells for 123.00/yard!

Nishijin fabric:

Nishijin is a district in Kamigyō-ku, Kyoto, Japan, and (by extension) a traditional textile produced there, more narrowly referred to as Nishijin-ori (Nishijin fabric).

The beautiful fabrics woven in the Nishijin district are seen as symbolic of Kyoto. These "Nishinin textiles" developed over 1000 years of Kyoto's history as the capital of Japan. This later became known as Nishijin textile.

Nishijin weaving has been famous in Japan for centuries for its detail and beauty. Although technology has improved since they began weaving in the 5th century, the Nishijin of Kyoto still prefer to do everything by hand. The entire process takes place in 5 stages: pattern design, yarn preparation, loom preparation, weaving, and final processing. Each individual step within the stages is done by an expert, ensuring that the quality of whatever is made measures up to Nishijin standards. The key to Nishijin weaving is the combination of the woof (thread carried by the shuttle, horizontal) and the warp (the "filling" threads, vertical). This method is very time-consuming, but gets the most detail.

  • 3 weeks later...

I ordered a three pen case from Chan's Handmade on ebay and had absolutely no problem. Emilie and Kevin are incredibly conscientious and great communicators. They make the cases as they are ordered. Mine took about a week to make and another week to arrive through registered mail. It all went without a problem.

The case is absolutely unique and beautiful (no picture yet). I was concerned about the tanning process for the suede and asked about it. The message I received back from Emilie and Kevin explained that there is no leather in the pen cases or wraps. The suede is a microfiber. As you all know leather isn't good for pens:

I am really happy with the sturdy quality of this pen case and even happier that there is no leather in it!

Here's are two (pretty dim) photos- in the open case, that's a Naka Ai in the middle slot and a piccolo buried on the right

Why is leather bad for pens?

I would disagree that Chans are the most beautiful. Although they are quite beautiful and I plan on getting one in the near future, I believe the one I had custom made is much nicer.

Chan's wraps are exquisite. The attention to detail and quality of the materials are amazing. These are much more structured than other soft/silky wraps, and offer better protection IMO. Most patterned wraps are too busy for me - this one is perfect. But of course it's down to personal taste.

Some exquisite examples of wraps here - thanks to all contributions with photos.

Whilst they look wonderful do the protect pens as well as a leather case? I really fancy splashing the cash, but if I cannot put these in my briefcase with my laptop etc, I am not sure they are for me...

The thing I like about my three pen case is that it is as thick and padded--if not more so--than a leather case. The fabric case itself is quite thick. And the top and three slots are a beautiful suede microfiber that is very protective. The slots themselves are lined with a dark blue silk done in very fine stitching.

That said, the photos of other silk wraps on this thread are exquisite.
