Review: Sheaffer Legacy I Blue Gold Fountain Pen With Factory Stub *warning Picture Heavy

Good news, I sent my pen to Sheaffer in Ft. Madison and they fixed the touchdown problem! All it needed was a replacement touchdown converter unit. I'm overall very happy with the Sheaffer service.

Wow, that is great. They mostly replace parts in Fort Madison now, but I am glad they had what you needed.

Great review! I myself don't really like the pen because the grip just felt a little too wide for me. And when compared to the Valor, I think the cap design is on the plain side. Nevertheless, the colour combination just looks very beautiful.

I wonder if Scheaffer would convert my medium to a stub nib.

Almost certainly not.

Inlaid nibs are not good candidates for either retipping (needed to go narrow to wide) or even regrinding.

The Sheaffer Legacy is a superb pen. I have collected a number of them over the years including the blue Jim Gaston. They are great writers and have found the touchdown system to be reliable and easily maintained..

Beautiful pen! Thanks for the review. Does anyone have an opinion on how this compares to a waterman carene? I'm trying to decide between the two.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I have the Legacy 1 in black with G/T and a medium nib. I love the touchdown system and so far (fingers crossed) it works well. I also have the Legacy 2 in bronze with a factory stub nib. Very smooth though a bit too much on the wet side for general use.

Thanks for the photos and the review. Beautiful pen indeed.

Sad that I did not look for these treasures when they sold here and I had cash on me (was deputed to UAE from India those days). Only got a Pilot Birdie, Pelikan Future and such stuff.

Regards

In matters Sheaffer, I bow to Jar's vastly more significant expertise and experience.

I will add this: if one is going to re-grind it (regardless of whether that is a good idea or no), I can heartily recommend John Sorowka. He too mentioned that the Sheaffer upturned nib is a bit of a bear to work on, but he has done wonders on my Valor.

True bliss: knowing that the guy next to you is suffering more than you are.
