Obb Nibs

Had one, sold it as too narrow for my tastes. It was hard to tell it was oblique as it wrote a fairly fine line in almost any position. I suspect it was ground to be more forgiving than the broader variants given the larger number of M nib defaulting users out there.

I have attached a small sample of a 149 OM next to a 146 M. Currently my BB and O3B nibbed pens are out of my rotation.

Nice handwriting.

I love your choice of ink.

Yeah, thanks much guys about the OM. It looks like there is subtle line variation with the OM.

I guess you are referring to the 149-OM sample and not mine (because on the vintage nibs there are variations).

To be honest I can't see any.

Recently e.g. Pelikan stopped the production of the oblique nibs, as there is almost no demand anymore.

Which is IMO obvious as a oblique cut is only useful if applied on a stubby nib (today only on broader nibs (and here also not valid for each brand) ).

On a modern spherical (blob) nib an oblique cut gives you no advantage at all as:

- Correction of the holding angle is not needed on a spherical nib as they write in nearly every position

- You will get also no different writing experience on a spherical nib, no nice broad stroke shift as there is no broad stroke.

My everyday writer is a modern 149 OM, and have been using it for the past 6 years.

Just put up a Oscar Wilde OB for sale..please check it out!

Well. I sent an old beater 146 to the service center for a complete tune up and a nib exchange. There is an OBB nib on order.

Apparently they will replace the entire pen except for the "cap assembly".

I will keep you posted.

Also good. Hard to go wrong with MB obliques.

My OBB 146 arrived today.

Beautiful, smooth nib. Nice line variation.

Everything I hoped for.
