Pay It Forward 2014

* L'Plume (unknown model) - substantial size: same length as a Lamy Safari and a little thicker. Metal body, muted colours and classic design (the flash of the photo makes the pen look much lighter than it is - in real life, it is a dark blue). Snap cap. Two-tone steel nib – no marking, but I’d rate it a Medium. Cap posts securely (clicks in place). I bought it used last year. The pen feels good in my (medium-large) hand. But I have upgraded since then, and I never use it. I also find the nib can be a little temperamental, though it writes well. No box, will be placed in plastic piping for safe postage.

The Good: It arrived today and it's absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful navy blue and terrific weight (I have large hands so I like a larger and heavier pen).

The Bad: Since I grabbed my mail from the box downstairs on my way to work, I didn't know it was there so I didn't nab a converter before leaving the apartment and so I can't ink it and try it until I get home tonight!

...well, okay, I can at least dip it until then. :)

Thanks again so very much, stephanos!

Excellent. I'm glad you like the looks and feel (and that it arrived in one piece).

Your no-converter frustration reminds me of the saying, "hunger is the best sauce." I suppose that by now you'll have tested it, so I hope you like the way it writes.

I did dip-test it at work, and a co-worker was amazed at how much it could write on one dip (a couple loosening-up squiggles, then 'The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog', then on through the letters in upper- and lower case -- made it from Aa to Mm before it petered out).

I promptly popped the converter in and have it loaded with Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrün (which I have lately fallen hard for -- what a gorgeous color!), and it is a beautiful writer. If I can remember to, I'll try to post a test page tonight when I get home from work.

And may I add, you have very fine handwriting. :)

Time for my first PIF. I will not try to guess at how popular this is going to be.

I have a burgundy Hero 616. The previous owner drilled a tiny hole in the end of the barrel, as was done with aero Parker 51s for quite some time, so that the air in the barrel wouldn't squeeze the ink sac when you flew.

It has two issues: first, the hood doesn't quite line up with the nib, especially if you screw it on tight. The point of the hood is at least 2mm out of line with the nib. Second, it leaks -- perhaps because I am unwilling to screw the hood on tight. Back when I used to use it, it was a nice writer, smooth and laying down a nice fine line.

I could not in good conscience sell it, but I have no issue with giving it away. PM me if you're interested, and I'll roll it up in bubble wrap, put it in a fairly stiff mailer, and send it anywhere that first class US postage can take it, marked "Hand cancel only." Next Sunday evening (somewhere around 9pm Eastern Daylight), I'll number all the responses, and use Random.org to choose one of them.

The Pilot PIF is now closed and as there were 22 entrants I will pull the two winners out of a hat/tuque later today. Literally, as George R. R. says: Winter is coming.

Edit. I drew the winners out of a very nice hat and they are Flounder and sirgilbert357. Congrats! I've informed the winners via PM.

I just wanted to give an update on a PIF that I won 7 months ago.

Rhodia paper is GREAT! I've been slowly using it, I dont want to finish it, haha.

Thanks Migo984

Black ink? How are you supposed to distinguish the original from a copy?

Okay... up for grabs again...

Send me a (PacMan) Ghost (mail the original to me) and I'll mail you back 5 sheets of totally cool paper.

The digital copies get loaded here....and become my Avatars.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

The Pilots have now flown to their new owners and it's time for a new PIF. I recently bought way too many pipettes and would like to give three sets of three away. These are soft plastic 3ml pipettes (the kind Goulet among others sells) and they are good for filling pens and mixing inks. The PIF is open to everybody and you have time until next Friday. PM me!

I'll give away 5 of these polishing sets: http://www.fp-ink.info/tuning

It's basically the material that Brian Goulet sells and Richard Binder recommends in his workshop: http://www.richardspens.com/pdf/workshop_notes.pdf

I couldn't find this outside of these two US-sources which prompted me to track down the industry level source, which basically only sells this in truckloads (at least from the FP-polishing perspective) thus I'm reselling part of it again and giving it away to whomever is interested around me :)

I'd like to restrict this to non-US people (worldwide except US) as everyone in the US can get this for a very reasonable price at the gouletpens.com page, outside of the US I'd still have to find a source (which caused me to order a bigger pack of this stuff in the first place) :)

I'll give them out first come first serve:

1: mhguda

2: SkylarKnight

3: tinysnail

5:

I just want to publicly thank Bardiir again for his PIF! I finally got a chance to use the polishing set last night, after using some coarse sandpaper to grind one of my Pilot Varsity/Vpens from a medium into something stubbish. This is so fun! Thank you!

I recently got a little windfall, and I'm wanting to share. Instead of sending out four envelopes, though, I want to do a bit of a shared PiF: I have 40 sheets of Tomoe River cream blank paper, loose sheets, that I will give to one recipient, on one condition: you must share this with at three other persons who are also on FPN. And I'd like to know where the other packages will be bestowed.

PM me with your reason to be given this, and I will choose between the first four to send me a message. This will be open until 23:59 (Atlantic time) saturday october 11.
