Pay It Forward 2014

I was advised by a moderator shortly after I joined that the WTT option in the classified section is the way to do this.

FWIW I would participate in a trade thread as well.

I love it. I got sidetracked by your other contribution which is currently up. I've had a handful of people ask me to keep it for a few days. I'm sending you more paper as I type.

Wait, are we allowed to enter more than once? Cuz I will GLADLY trade Pacmans (Pacmen?) for stationery!

I got this pen at a local antique store. It is an old Sheaffer School Pen. I cleaned it out (boy was it dirty) and gave the metal bits and nib a quick polish. The nib was scratchy because the ink had caused pitting on the tipping material. I reground it to a fine (.05mm?) cursive italic and smoothed it a bit (It's not ultra smooth but it won't rip the paper when you do a quick flourish either). The body is still covered in micro scratches and it looks better in these photos than in the hand. You can buff this back to smooth using Brian Anderson's instructions and some mirco mesh but I'm not going to bother as it looks fairly good to me (just not brand new and shiny). If i packaged this pen with a bar of solid gold I could probably sell it for $15 or so which is what i paid for it so there's no sense trying to sell it. I also picked up a pack of Sheaffer assorted color cartridges so you can start writing as soon as you get it.

Shoot me a PM and I will enter you for a random number drawing. I will draw the winner Friday August 29th sometime close to midnight.

I suggest you draw a handsome one, as Amber also has some brown paper with evil dots in her stock:

Even worse than the brown is the gray. I don't like brown or gray particularly.

This is the first time I've done this so please be gentle with me! Apologies for the terrible photo. My camera is really old and I have zero skills.

For new enthusiasts to the wonderful world of fountain pens the sheer choice, both vintage and modern, can be daunting.

So, here is a pen that is seen by many to be a must-have for any collection: An Esterbrook "J".

This particular specimen comes in many colours but the one I am offering today is an exciting shimmery Copper!

The nib is a fine width model 9556. I found it to be very smooth.

The pen is completely restored.

Okay, the rules of engagement.

1. I would prefer this to go someone who is new to pens. Please let your conscience be your guide.

2. I will ship anywhere on my own dime, but please be aware that it will be the cheapest available option.

3. The closing date for entries is 31th August 2014 - midnight GMT (even though I am in New Zealand!)

4. Names will be written on post-it notes and tacked to a dartboard.

5. Darts will be thrown - blindfolded, and with suitably dramatic music... and possibly while wearing a cape.

6. Winner will announced within one day of closing date, and a PM will be sent.

7. Package will be sent at my earliest convenience - I don't expect any big delays in doing this.

So, what do you have to do to get this little beauty?

PM me!! B)

You guys are not performing monkeys, however, I would appreciate a line or two about why you want it, rather than simply "I want it". (There are no right answers, I'm just curious is all)

(For those interested, the writing was done using a Pilot 78G Broad filled with Diamine Ancient Copper - seemed apposite)

Holy cow :o only one more day :o

The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed.

This PiF is now closed. I will contact the winners by PM for your address. Everyone who responded gets a set of cartridges. Thanks for playing!

It's unbelievable that it took nearly a month for the package to travel across the Caribbean, but the Parker cartridges finally arrived today, safe and sound. Thank you, Margo!! I am honored to receive this generous gift.

I have not yet had a chance to try any of them but I definitely will this weekend!

You must be the last one to receive them, or close... which seems to indicate that the farther away the destination, the greater the speed... as my friend in India whom I also sent one was among the first to indicate it had arrived! and yours had to travel the shortest distance. I'm glad they arrived safe and sound. May you have fun using them. If you don't top them up with water but use them as they are, let me know. And, I hope you like the colors!

Using a numbered running list and random.org, the winner is:

Oshizemi!

I have sent a PM. Have fun with the Sheaffer!

There were 35 entries so if you don't like the pen it looks like plenty of other people want to give it a go lol.

Address sent! I'm looking forward to trying it out. And seeing the popularity of it, if it doesn't work out it'll be back in PIF :P but I have have high hopes!

Congratulations oshizemi,

I think it is obvious this PIF was a popular one!!!

I know you will share some samples and examples with us.

A little side note to my fellow fans of the PIF thread --- I've been away from the PIF and most of the forums & subforums for some time. I think I'll be able to get back to sharing fairly soon!

Congratulations to all the winners since I'very been gone. And thanks to the gifters since I've been away! And good luck next time to those whom tried for the PIFs. You are all winners!

As I stated I'm coming back soon & will have some pretty neat items to share. The time I've been a member appears that I'm technically not too new to fountain pens, however not only have I been away from FPN I have not been to sit and write with or enjoy my pens in any way!!!!

Illness and some disk/vertabra deterioration have run my life for months, but " aggie " is on the road to recovery!! Sorry for the long post but I wanted my FPN/PIF family to know the nature my absence.

Thanks, aggie

PS: I've got a few good, maybe not a Montblanc, Omas, Viscont or such higher end FPs but I do have some neat inks, paper and yes some FPs.

If your out-go is more than your income,

Then your up-keep.

May be your Down-falll!!!

This is my first PIF, so apologies if the message is a little ponderous. I have been on FPN for about a year now, and have got a lot out of it. So, now that I have a couple of pens and some ink to give away, it feels more like paying back than paying forward. Still, here goes...

A total of five items

TWO pens are available:

* Italix Originalis in lapis blue, with 3 nib sizes, all italic: EF, M, 3B. Metal body. Screw cap. I bought it new last year. It's a lovely pen, but I just can't make friends with it, probably because it's a little too slim for my hands. Comes in its original box.

post-106543-0-23846000-1409397097_thumb.jpg

* L'Plume (unknown model) - substantial size: same length as a Lamy Safari and a little thicker. Metal body, muted colours and classic design (the flash of the photo makes the pen look much lighter than it is - in real life, it is a dark blue). Snap cap. Two-tone steel nib – no marking, but I’d rate it a Medium. Cap posts securely (clicks in place). I bought it used last year. The pen feels good in my (medium-large) hand. But I have upgraded since then, and I never use it. I also find the nib can be a little temperamental, though it writes well. No box, will be placed in plastic piping for safe postage.

post-106543-0-49572100-1409397103_thumb.jpg post-106543-0-41225700-1409397113_thumb.jpg

THREE inks are available. ALL have been opened, but are very nearly full. All are well-behaved, but I really didn't care for them, so they need to find a new home:

* Pelikan Edelstein Turmaline (standard bottle, 50ml?) - I found it wishy-washy, without the vibrancy I had expected, and far too light on the paper.

* Diamine Golden Brown, 30ml - not golden at all, more like khaki; to my mind it could more properly be called "shades-of-used-nappy/diaper."

* De Atramentis Lachs (Salmon) - insipid colour, too light on the paper for my liking. And very expensive for a 35ml bottle.

Eligibility and postage

* Open to anyone who will treat the pens well / use the inks

* Free standard postage for the pens, anywhere in the world. If you want extra postal services (e.g. Insurance), tell me after you win and I'll charge you at cost.

* I'll send the inks for free within the European Union. If you live outside the EU, then I can still send them to you, but you'll need to cover the price of postage (i.e., it would probably be cheaper to buy them locally).

Process

* If you would like to enter, send me a PM saying which pen(s) and/or ink(s) you would like

* I'll create five lists - one per item - and assign each entry a number, in order of receipt.

* Entries close at the end of Sunday 7 September. To allow for differences in time zones, "end of Sunday 7 September" means the end of that day wherever you are. In practice, I'll probably do the draw some time in the European evening of 8 September.

* Once entries close, I'll use random.org to generate the winning entries.

* I'll announce the results on the PIF thread, and PM the winners.

Final note

I travel a lot, and the items are not all in the same place. Be aware that I am likely to take some time to respond to PMs, and/or send you your item(s): please be patient.

Wow -

Very nice First PIF Stephanos! I'd say you paid backward and forward.

Good luck to those that apply.

Edit: For typo.

Welcome back aggie! You were missed here...

And, I'd just like to let you know, I've already filled one of the Apicas you so generously gave me. It was a real pleasure to use, and I'm becoming a convert to that paper size... So I'm saving the others for later...
