I got this pen at a local antique store. It is an old Sheaffer School Pen. I cleaned it out (boy was it dirty) and gave the metal bits and nib a quick polish. The nib was scratchy because the ink had caused pitting on the tipping material. I reground it to a fine (.05mm?) cursive italic and smoothed it a bit (It's not ultra smooth but it won't rip the paper when you do a quick flourish either). The body is still covered in micro scratches and it looks better in these photos than in the hand. You can buff this back to smooth using Brian Anderson's instructions and some mirco mesh but I'm not going to bother as it looks fairly good to me (just not brand new and shiny). If i packaged this pen with a bar of solid gold I could probably sell it for $15 or so which is what i paid for it so there's no sense trying to sell it. I also picked up a pack of Sheaffer assorted color cartridges so you can start writing as soon as you get it.

Shoot me a PM and I will enter you for a random number drawing. I will draw the winner Friday August 29th sometime close to midnight.

Wow. I just spent my lunch time doodling birds and practicing my handwriting. Lovely pen, but I not have any more storage so I am not going to enter contest, but someone is gonna win a very nice pen.

The Phone Lady wins the assorted inks!

I am closing the PIF for the Pilot inks because I have had almost 20 requests for them in the past 24 hours. I will draw a name at random AFTER the inks arrive. The inks are coming from Japan, and I am leaving town on Friday, so if you don't hear from me next week don't be disheartened. I have not forgotten, it just means I am out of town.

Congratulations PhoneLady!

Last bump. Draw will be tomorrow, probably in the afternoon. I'll get it packaged up at work and ready to go.

PIF time!

I'm offering a Kaigelu 363 with,I believe, a fine nib. I received this in PIF shortly after joining this site as I was curious about Japanese pens. It is more substantial than I expected (a bonus), but after getting hooked on Esterbrooks, I didn't use it often enough to compel me to keep hold of it.

The pen body, cap and section are all metal: cap and body look to be brushed aluminium with gold colored trim, section is black/gold. It comes with a converter and one cartridge which IIRC is blue. I'm also including a 5ml sample of my favorite blue ink, Noodler's Midway Blue.

This is open to anyone, anywhere. If you're interested, send me a PM. I'll keep it open until August 28th and draw with a random number generator.attachicon.gifIMG_20140815_112358.jpgattachicon.gifIMG_20140815_112446.jpg

It really is a nice pen - apply to the PIF! I own one so I'll pass, and because I own one I am saying this - this is one of the better cheap pens. I'm sure anyone will like it.

Last bump on this one, I'll have Random.org pick out a winner when I get home from work this afternoon. :)

Ever wanted to try out iron gall inks, but didn't want to risk (from the horror stories you see) turning one of your expensive babies into a puddle of bubbling slag? Then this is the PiF for you!

Who's Eligible: Anyone who hasn't used IG inks before, and let's keep this one inside the US, please, for shipping reasons.

What 'Ya Get!: This PiF is a package deal, containing what I believe to be the single skeeziest fountain pen ever manufactured. This is a Noodler's branded eyedropper with a thread-on cap, that came with a bottle of ink. It actually wrote halfway decently (if a bit scratchy) with the ESSRI when I got it going a minute ago, but getting the ink flow started the first time required a water-dip for the nib. Also included are 5 mils each (two and a bit fills for the pen) of two of the more common IG inks, both classic blue-blacks. ESSRI, and R&K Salix. I'll also toss in a syringe with a blunt dispenser needle for transferring it from the vials to the pen, so you don't have to even contaminate one of your own pipettes.

Come on, 'ya got no more excuses not to try the stuff! Drop me a message, and I'll use Random.org to pick a number on Wednesday or so of next week, and get 'er shipped before the weekend. (This is my first PiF, so please have patience with any foibles in messaging, etc)

And time to draw! 14 people signed up for the Iron Gall PiF, they've been added to a list in the order they contacted me, assigned a sequential number in same order, and random.org says... #6 - ScienceChick!

Special batch of Amber select papers with doodles - preferable for you to write to other FPNers using FP inks and post up as Co-Razy Reviews.

I just love Magic Fairy ribbons on the ivory-yellow paper, if you have any of them left around

OMG, OMG!!! This is so cool!!! Thank you so much, Komitadjie!! I'll be sure to let you know what I think. Who knows, maybe I'll be cavalierly filling my Edison with IG ink before too long. Got to go haunt the mailbox now.

I love it. I got sidetracked by your other contribution which is currently up. I've had a handful of people ask me to keep it for a few days. I'm sending you more paper as I type.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

i have a query...

Is 'pen exchange' allowed in this thread ? While i cant afford a PIF, i will be glad to exchange pens i have been using. Though i know that classifieds is a good option for this, i dont want to do this as a mere business trade. Not many of us visit classifieds often. But we all have pens which we have used satisfactorily and may be interested to exchange with other pens.

Interesting idea. But is not a real PIF.

There is an Ink Sample Exchange thread (actually I believe there are more than one).. you can start a Pen Exchange Thread. I am sure it can turn up into a successful thread. ;)
