Last week I entered a PIF contest hosted by Elle_. To my complete surprise, I was fortunate to have been selected as a lucky winner! Included was not only a sleek-looking silver Pilot Metropolitan, but an assortment of inks and a large, easy-to-use converter—the Con-50. The link above is an image of the amazingness, as well as a thank you.

The timing was serendipitous! The Pilot Metropolitan arrived a day before I took the bar exam so I inked the pen up immediately with the beautiful Kon Peki ink—there couldn’t have been a better ink to break in the pen with-- and took it with me for the exam. I’m not superstitious, but that must have been good luck. J

I’ve been using the Pilot heavily, already filling the large converter up twice, so I thought I’d (unnecessarily) share some of my thoughts on the pen. The grip section on the pen is very comfortable and makes it easy to write quickly and for long periods of time. The pen is also light, but feels substantial. It is comfortable to use either posted or unposted. The same is not true for the Lamy Safari, which I think feels a bit top heavy when writing with the cap posted.

What a cool section you all have here. Maybe I will be lucky enough to get some supplies to try to see if I like using these pens before spending my non existent budget LOL!

Yah, the Lamy Safari and Al Star is a bit top heavy, but it's such a bit pen, it's not supposed to be posted :P

Looks like a nice pen and assortment of inks! I'm glad you got it just in time! I got mine so quickly as well, it made me so happy (I was on stings all along until I got it :D)

Elle_ is awesome :3

I have three Esties in need of a good home. These are fantastic pens that just don't get enough use in my rotation. One is silver in colour, recently restored and in beautiful working condition. The others are red and copper, both in need of a a little TLC (I think just new sacs are needed as the levers seem to be in good working order). They would be perfect pens for someone interested in learning to repair pens.

I'm a poor student, so I'll have to restrict shipping to North America to keep costs down.

If you are interested in these pens, please send me a PM with a picture of either your dream car or your favourite piece of audio equipment. On August 15th I'll choose a picture at random and contact the winner for their shipping coordinates and post the winner here.

I have seven ink samples, each with 3-4 mls, that need a new home. It would be nice if they went to someone for whom it's a challenge - either financial or logistical - to get ink/ink samples but that's not a requirement. I'll ship US or outside the US.

Each PM will be assigned a number based on time of arrival and I'll employ the hat and fingers method to determine the recipient.

The samples are

Private Reserve: Hope Pink, Gray Flannel, Tanzanite

Pelikan: Brilliant Red

Monteverde: Burgundy

Edelstein: Topaz

Diamond: Cerise

Please message me by Monday, Aug. 11, 7:00 pm CDT & I'll draw by 8:00 pm.

Back-to-school PIF!

Open to:

-Students, at any level

-In the US

-Who have never won a PIF from me before

-Who haven't won a PIF from this forum in the last 3 months.

I have a J. Herbin Refillable Roller Ball pen, medium point, just like this one: http://www.jetpens.com/J.-Herbin-Refillable-Roller-Ball-Pen-Medium-Point/pd/9760. It is a great little pen --- but I just never get around to using it. So it should go to someone who would put it to good use. It would be perfect for taking notes or for keeping in your bag as a backup for when your favorite fountain pen runs out of ink in class.

If you are addicted to extra-fine nibs, this isn't for you. It writes comparably to a 0.7 rollerball. If you like medium points, you'd really enjoy it.

To enter:

-PM me. (Please don't add replies to this thread.)

-Tell me something interesting about yourself and school, such as: what you are studying, what you are researching, how you picked your school/college, what class you take the most notes in, the best thing you've read lately, etc.

-Include your name and mailing address.

The the winner of the ink sample PIF is mistykasumi! But wait - she would only like some of the inks so I drew again and the next name out of the hat (okay, bowl) is mr. moustache! If you two will PM me your addresses, I'll get the samples out to you pronto.

Oh shoot, I drew early! I thought it was tonight and just read my original post. If y'all are okay with me messing up then the drawing will stand; if not, I can re-draw tomorrow. I feel like a doofus.

I'm currently planing/training to grind down a gold lamy nib into a stub. So I've got three cheap pens here where I've tried/experimented with grinding on - they are stub nibs now, with some different behaviors. Since I've mostly bought them to practice grinding in the first place I'm now giving these away. Actually I got four but one will be kept by me as the new standard pen for ink reviews :)

All are open for worldwide applications. All pens will come to you cleaned completely, even though they are inked up in the picture.

First up is a blue Rex Office Fountain pen - 0.6mm stub. Broad when held at a shallow writing angle, gets more italic when you hold it steeply (0.2mm line width / 0.6mm line width). Upside down it's a fine/extra fine nib. Very smooth writing. Clear handle, blue feed, a black or very dark ink can be seen very clearly in here for a nice effect.

Includes some standard international cartridges.

---

Second is an orange Rex Office Fountain pen - 0.7mm stub. Italic with a little springiness (0.3mm line width / 0.7mm line width / 1mm line width flexed). Broad upside down. Very smooth writing. Clear handle, orange feed, a dark ink can be seen in the feed perfectly.

Third is a FPR Dilli I got as a gift when ordering there - . Italic nib with a tiny bit of sponginess, but not enough to really get any line variation aside from the italic grind (0.25mm line width / 0.7mm line with). Unusably scratchy upside down (not smoothed out) but extremely smooth in normal writing position, far smoother than the Rex ones. If you don't like a glassy writing feel you might want to skip this one, there's almost zero feedback.

This is a piston filler. It's a bit finicky when filling because you're mostly disassembling the pen each time by accident, but once filled it's ok as a starting pen. I'll include an ink sample of the winners choice out of my inks.

---

I'll draw winners in 6 days. Sunday 17:00 (5pm) in germany. I'm not 100% sure if I'll be drawing on luck or if I will choose the winner but when there's a tie it's going to be luck in the end.

You may apply to multiple pens, but you can only win one of the pens. To apply for any of the pens please write me a PM why I should choose you as the new owner of that pen.

http://www.fp-ink.info/img/button.pngI'm still looking for help/data/supporters/sponsors for my Ink Database - It already contains over 900 Inks but is still low on data about the inks except on the Inks I got myself or where I found nice data sheets. So Im looking for these: InkSamples mailed to me, Permissions to use InkReviews - preferable by people who have a lot of InkReviews online, InkReviews mailed to me so I can scan them, Sponsors that will help me to finance InkSamples, People willing to trade InkSamples (list of available Inks from me is available via PM request - please include available Inks)
