PIF For Those New to Fountain Pens

Here goes my first PIF for my 500th post. So the pen is a Bic Easy clic (mint condition, Medium nib) fountain pen in green. I will include a few cartridges with it (it only takes short standard international ones). A review by a fellow member. No costs to the recipient of course.

attachicon.gif51hK10oQhmL._SL1500_.jpg

So I am offering this as UK ONLY to keep my costs down INITIALLY. This is quite a simple pen that would make a good first FP so if you think you know someone or are someone who would make good use out of it PM me.

A few sentences to describe who the intened recipent as well please (I will use this to decide the recipient).

If I don’t get much interest by Tuesday I will open I will open it up to everyone (will post on here if I do) with a winner picked next Friday at 12:00 am dependent on at least 3 entrys if not the time period will be extened.

Edit: Second thought no Minimum requirements needed.

The Winner of the Bic Easy clic is Migo984 (on behalf of one of her Students). Posting it tomorrow morning.

I really like this thread as it allows people do little acts of kindness that help others. Also I like how it's an easy way to pass on out of favour pens to others and those new to the hobby which hopefully will create new young fountain pen users. I'll have to keep a look out for more things I can PIF as for low value items ( I'm a Student don't really have that much disposable money) it's far more satisfying giving stuff you don't use away then selling.

I have a Lamy 1.1 stub up for grabs. I got it last year to try out a stub nib but turns out stubs aren't my cup of tea, so I'd like this PIF to go to someone who wants to give a stub a try, on the understanding that if it turns out not to be for you then you PIF.

PM me if you are interested. I'm in the UK but for such a small item I can probably post it to other countries as well subject to cost.

WOW.. great PIF.. (Sorry, you are PIF'ing the nib itself , or a Safari with a 1.1 nib?).. and Welcome to FPN!!!! :D

Honestly though... there is a big fan base for Lamy pens, but the 1.1 is not a complete representative of Stubs. You should try other stubs nibs (vintage stubs for example) before you give up on them. ;)

It is just the 1.1 Stub nib - there is no pen with the nib, I like my Al Star and two Safaris with the medium and broad nibs they came with and don't want to part with them at this point. I was interested in trying out a stub but at the time I was a postgraduate research student and pen funds were low, so I went for a Lamy nib as I had the pens to interchange the nibs on. In the future when pen funds are healthier I will look into vintage stubs.

For now this Lamy 1.1 Stub nib is looking for a new owner (and pen to live on) who will enjoy it.

I HAVE A WINNER! Congratulations, mmkoenecke! This PIF is now closed.

---------------------------------

Who uses their fountain pens to write lots of letters?

I have an abundance of stationery and will be putting together one package of assorted papers, cards, and envelopes as a PIF for someone on this thread. Some plain some, some bright stuff, some unique designs, etc.

Open to anyone in the US who has not previously won a PIF from me.

I'd like to mail the package out this week, so the winner will be the first person who sends me a PM with their name and mailing address. If you feel like telling me who your most frequent pen pals are (best friend, grandparents, pen pals you've never met ... or if you're just always writing thank you notes for something or another) that would be fun to know, too.

I'm new to fine writing and even newer to this forum.

A little history that spurred my interests.

For years my handwriting has been comparable to chicken scratch, and just as legible. My roommate made a comment that a fountain pen would improve my handwriting and I would fall in love with it.

So for Christmas I found a parker urban starter kit and though "what the hell, why not!!" So after a little practice and learning a little in "what and how" to do it, I began to see an improvement.

Please don't mistake this post for asking for "free stuff" I wish to improve on a dying art.

-A little what I plan to do-

Practicing makes perfect and I know my grandfather would love to receive letters from his kin (unfortunately I am the only one writing letters)

-Kyle-

Just a friendly reminder for anyone who might be interested. I will announce a winner tomorrow by 7 pm.

I have been wanting to do a PIF for quite some time now. I've been lucky and honored to win some PIFs when I first started here even though I was mainly into the ink. After seeing all of the PIFs that have been offered here, I felt rather intimidated. I tend to be a perfectionist depending on the situation and had this mindset that I HAD to find the right thing to PIF to a lucky individual. I became very anxious, stressed and worrisome over the whole thing.
It's a new year and I vowed that I would hold a PIF and not stress out about it. I still do not know a lot about the world of fountain pens especially when it comes to paper. I thought this would be nice for anyone who would like to jot down notes, scribble, or doodle.
PIF Offered:
One sky blue, medium ruled, hard cover notebook (5 x 8.1 in.) featuring 240 pages & an inner pocket. 3 ink samples: Montblanc Einstein, Noodler's Saguaro Wine, & Private Reserve Spearmint.
I included links to ink reviews by fellow FPN members as a reference.
Criteria:
Just send me a message and tell me how you got into fountain pens. You will be assigned a number once I receive your submission.
Anyone is eligible for this PIF.
A random number will be picked and the winner will be announced on Sunday, January 12.
:)

PIF for those interested in Calligraphy

My first PIF of 2014 comprises two items.

First is a copy of "The Calligrapher's Bible". This spiral bound book shows 100 complete alphabets and how to draw them. It has a brief introductory section on materials and getting started but I wouldn't say this is necessarily a book for a complete novice. The book is approx A5 size and is thick & heavy.

attachicon.gifCalligraphy 1.jpg

attachicon.gifCalligraphy 2.jpg

Here is the amazon.co.uk page http://www.amazon.co.uk/Calligraphers-Bible-Complete-Alphabets-Draw/dp/0713665041/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1388947958&sr=1-1&keywords=calligraphers+bible

Second item is an Osmiroid Master Calligraphy pen set comprising a pen and 6 nibs (for Italic, Roman, Gothic, Uncial & Copperplate writing). There are 2 cartridges but I don't know how viable these are, plus a squeezefill. Although the packaging is old and a bit tatty this set is "new" and has never been opened. I believe, but am not 100% certain, that these nibs may fit Esterbrook pens too EDIT: These DO NOT fit Esterbrooks - thanks Cyber6. .

attachicon.gifosmiroid calligraphy2.jpg

I'd like this PIF to go to someone who wants to learn calligraphy and is either a new starter or a slightly more experienced novice. I would like the 2 items to go together, but will consider awarding separately if you only want one of them & convince me to do so. :)

Because of the weight of the book this must go to a UK member only. If I award the pen & nibs as a separate item I'm willing to post these abroad.

So if you're interested please send me a brief PM with the reason you're interested in this PIF. If you already do calligraphy a picture of your work would be nice, attached to your PM :)

I'll leave this open until 8pm (GMT) on Sunday 12th January.

Final bump for this PIF, which is finishing this evening at 8pm GMT. I will consider offering the book and pens separately. Postage costs to be meet by bidder if outside UK. PM me if you're interested.

Is your place accessible by the CTA train system?

Sorry for the delay, haven't been back to FPN since my post! I'm just north of Logan Square, about a 15 minute walk from the Belmont stop on the blue line.

The inks are still available! Someone please come get them! :D

I'm moving to China in a month and can't reasonably take eight bottles of ink with me, so I'm offering the following inks for FREE in Chicago. I don't have time to ship these, so this is for Chicago locals only, for pick up in my neighborhood (just north of Logan Square)

  • Iroshizuku Tsuyu-kusa
  • Iroshizuku Kiri-same
  • Private Reserve Ebony Purple
  • Diamine Sunset
  • Sailor Sei Boku blue-black
  • Parker Quink blue-black

These are all great inks. All partially used but at least 3/4 full, nothing wrong with them aside from being dead weight for me at the moment. I'm taking Waterman black and Sailor Jentle blue-black, all else goes out the door. If one person wants to come and grab all of them at once, that would be easiest for me. PM me if you're interested!

I have a friend in the UK who would enjoy the book immensely. Please add me .. only if there is little interest for the book. ;)

PensAndInks won the Reform. Please PM me an address and the pen will be on its merry way!

Thanks to an a-nonny-moose benefactor, I am offering up to a lucky stub neophyte a Bordeaux red Reform Calligraph, pictured below.

fpn_1388692560__reform_calligraph_13mm_n

fpn_1388692624__reform_calligraph_13mm_n

fpn_1388692647__reform_calligraph_13mm_n

fpn_1388692671__reform_calligraph_13mm_n

The Bordeaux red Reform is quite rare with this nib, especially in this color. It comes near mint, with a gold-plated steel, 1.3mm stub nib and is a piston filler with a clear ink window; the piston works perfectly.

Now here's the catch. I want to give this to somebody who is not familiar with the joys of stubs. Moderators need not apply. Folks who have been members for at least three months, and have really contributed 30+ posts (real posts, not any of the goofy "+1" stuff) are eligible. Obviously, I can't go through checking all yours posts for this, so, be honest, please... I'll leave this running until Jan 12, 2014. May the luckiest win!

Be forewarned... I will eye-bang the bejeezus out of your pens...
