Thank you, Betweenthelines - wow, first chance to get a pen on a Rhodia notebook!

I saw the PM first and have already responded. Will be wonderful with all the new ink that I'm getting these days...

Thanks you very much, Betweentheline! Applied the first time for a PIF and winning, that is a such a great first-vintage pen experience! Will take great care of the pen, promise!! :)

The winner of the Estie SJ in need of repair is: Kidde!

Thanks for the answers to the questions from everyone who entered. I learned a lot of things I'd been wondering about Esterbrook repair.

I should have two more PIFs in the near future. :)

Congratulations to the winners! It is always fun and uplifting to see these PIFs and who gets them.Better fun, when they post when they receive them and test them. I always come around to watch.

When this pen is fixed it will return as a PIF, from both of us. I also have a couple that will join it being an all vintage PIF. Thanks Mezzie, this thread needs more vintage pens!

kidde, you are reinventing the mathom!

I think it's a great idea.

Thanks, but I think I'll wait awhile before asking for a PiF again - I just won a Clairfontaine webnotebook. Plus a bunch of new pens came in. But there will come a day...

Up next:

A Jinhao x450 in red gold (see here: http://www.gouletpens.com/Jinhao_X450_Red_Gold_Fountain_Pen_p/jin-x450-redgold.htm )

I got this and and the other Jinhao I own (an x750) when I was still in my initial pen buying fever and wanted a cheap way to find out if I liked medium nibs (these pens cost less to buy than the gas needed to get to the nearest pen shop would). For a $10 pen, it writes decently, but it does tend to skip on the first downstroke and sometimes needs a little piston push to get started if it hasn't been used for a while (like... an afternoon. It's a needy pen). The cap is less secure than most; I can push it off easily with my thumb.

Overall, I like how my writing looks when I write with this pen, and it shows off inks with shading properties well, but the barrel is too heavy for me for extended writing periods. Since I use my Jinhaos infrequently due to that, I see no reason to hang onto two when one will suffice.

Despite its cheap price tag, it does look quite elegant. All my students were convinced I'd spent hundreds of dollars on it.

If you'd like it, send me a PM. I'll choose randomly on Tuesday and try to get it in the mail soon after.

You must realize that oldtimer (ME) and OLD TIMER are not the same. It was me that won that PIF.

I did not know there was someone else with this variation of my username!

New PIF - Baoer 051 and ink samples

fpn_1405302985__baoer_633x616.jpg

I'd like this to go to someone who is fairly new to fountain pens, who doesn't have a lot of pens and who has not recent won any other PIF.

I will include a couple of random ink samples (most likely Diamine) with the pen.

Please PM me to enter with reasons why you'd like this pen and your location.

Thank you :)

Great! I am not limiting it to one winner, but I would like to limit the pens I work on. For starters I'll do one per week and see how it works out. As far as the candidates, it seems fair to limit it to members who have only a few (e.g. 5 or less) and don't have the resources (or haven't reached the point in the hobby) to send them out to the pros.

So.... if you've got a cheaper pen that you can't get writing smoothly, or the tines are misaligned, too close, too far apart, or your not exactly sure - send me a PM, I may be able to help. If I come across a pen that needs more involved repair or is beyond my comfort level, I'll simply send it back, and at least we'll have a better idea of what's wrong with it.

*Please note that this is for pens that are in general working condition (e.g. writing but skips, is scratchy), and not ones that need restoration.

For shipping, I'll cover it if it's in the U.S.

BUMP!

So I haven't had any takers on the newbie nib tuning, so I'm opening my offer up to anyone who would like to turn their steel nib into a sweet stub. I'll pay the return shipping for lower-48, or you pay shipping for anywhere else.. If you're thinking: "Art, you are crazy, you could charge for this...." Well, my answer is, I want to spread the stub love. Also, I've already stubbed all my pens so I'm itching for some nib grinding :-0

I'll do one per week, and see how it goes from there...

PM me...
