Kept forgetting to drop by and say thanks, so here's a quick thank you to babatiki~! (Apologies for the sloppy writing--was in the middle of writing a story when I remembered this!) Am looking forward to using both inks for sketching (and maybe even writing!).

I just discovered the Pay It Forward corner on FPN - what a great idea! I'm offering bottles of ink that range from hardly opened, to about 85% full. I'm moving apartment yet again, and while these inks are fantastic, I think someone else here could make much better use of them. I'll ship them anywhere, but I ask that you cover the cost of shipping. I'm sending them from NYC.

  • Noodler's Blue Ghost
  • Noodler's the Whiteness of the Whale
  • Noodler's Nightshade
  • Noodler's Air-Corp Blue-Black
  • Noodler's El Lawrence
  • Noodler's Lexington Gray
  • Noodler's Heart of Darkness
  • J. Herbin Gris Nuage
  • J. Herbin Poussiere de lune
  • J. Herbin Vert Empire
  • J. Herbin Cacao du Brésil
  • Rohrer & Klingner Sepia
  • Diamine Eclipse
I also have an orange/black Noodler's flex nib pen, and a red Lamy abc fountain pen, if anyone is interested.

There's a truck coming to move things into storage on Monday, so get in quick!

I sent a message but do not show that you ever opened it. Are any of the inks still available? I would be interested in the Noodler's Nightshade and/or the Herbin Vert Empire.

I think the post above yours claimed the nightshade/nightingale.

Oops, I see it now. I am guessing that most of the inks were probably spoken for, I just hadn't seen an update.

Thanks KBeezie!

Under the FPN rules, we don't have off site reviews. The moderator of this thread may have a different opinion, and could "unhide" the posts. Since I felt that linking to PIF to an offsite blog violated the rules, I have hidden the post and all the posts responding to that post. The member may link the photos and list the PIF terms here. Amber

My apologies for breaking any FPN rules I just wanted to raise awareness of a giveaway. The reason I post links often is that I still struggle with uploading pictures but i think I may now have it.

So assuming that this picture upload works, I am going to offer another PIF seperate from the Platinum Cool offered on my blog. I am giving away this Lamy Safari in Yellow and a converter to use bottled inks it has an EF nib on it, but if the winner has another preference I am sure I can accomodate it.

So rules:

Fairly simple really..... just PM me with why you would like it and i will select a winner at the end of May.

Nice. Safari been pretty popular for beginners it seems, and I'm told it's built like a tank.

It was my first FP, and I use it regularly. It's a good size, nice with the grip section if you're new too, I found that to be the hardest thing with FP, you need the right angle.

Brilliant PIF to offer, I believe everyone should have a Lamy.

Lamy Al-star Blue (M) - Caran d'Ache Carbon Black

Parker 95 (M) - Iroshizuku Chiku Rin

Cult Pens by Kaweco (mini) - J. Herbin Eclat de saphir

Everyone gives out such excellent PIFs! I wish to offer something here soon too. :)

Just send me a PM. First come, first gets a letter from me.

Hi everyone

On offer for my next PIF is a Parker 51 pen. I know very little about the P51 and I haven’t tried this pen but it looks to be a nice pen in good condition. I think it is burgundy with a Lustraloy cap and probably a medium nib. It has the squared off end and I think it is a Mk III? It has a very narrow band at the bottom of the section. This is an aeromatic fill and the sac looks to be in good condition, with some translucency. The pen is made in England; this is marked around the cap. The barrel is in good order with only a few minor scratches and a couple of very small dings. The cap is a nice tight fit.

I want this PIF to go to someone who hasn’t got a Parker 51yet and who has a record of participation on the FPN forum. It is open worldwide and I’ll meet the postage costs.

To enter, just send me a PIF with a sentence or two about why you think this pen is for you.

This PIF is open until next Saturday 10th May at 7pm British Summer Time.

Good luck everyone :bunny01:

Sammierae picked up her PIF (Wingsung 3203 and Yiren 3220, her very first fountain pens) At the local Biggby, and her Mom purchased the green celluloid pendant pen I restored from me as her graduation gift.

She was VERY excited, her mom was with her and couldn't believe I was giving her two fountain pens for nothing (had to explain the concept of the pay-it-forward thread lol), Got them filled there in the coffee shop, with the whole table showing off my collection of pens. Wingsung with one of the black cartridges I got from Teacher Man today, Filled the Yiren with some Syrah, and the Green Pendant Pen with some Diamine Imperial Blue (and left her about 4-5ml in sample vial of the two inks), as well as a GouletPens bookmark (with the "If your Dreams don't scare you, they are not big enough" quote by Ellen Jonhson Sirleaf, which I have about 3 of so far :P), and went over the basics of cleaning, filling, and some suggestions on where to get some more ink down the road and the stuff like syringe filling and using sample vials for filling (to avoid a mishap with the whole bottle, etc).

So yea... new addict I'm sure.

fpn_1399495187__sammie_sm.jpg

I also received my envelope full of cartridges today before the meet-up from Teacher Man with a bunch of blues/blacks standard international and some pilot cartridges. I gave Sammierae above 4 of those cartridges for her new pens and some sample vials of ink (some of which were also given to me in turn) for the Yiren and Celluloid pens. And plenty of blue/black left over for my brother's pens for school work :P.

Not sure what brand of black cartridges you had in there for standard international, but when I had her trying it out on my Rhodia pad, I was surprised how quick drying it was.

PS: Teacher Man, I love the wax seal you have on the back:

fpn_1399495692__wax_seal.jpg

I'm surprised how well the seal lasted traveling from Germany, it's very neat looking and I'd be curious to know how you get that gold imprint (guessing you coat the stamp before pressing).

Edit: The map inside of the envelope is just north of the area we lived in Germany, when we were stationed in Karlsruhe.

@bhavini If I were you I would not buy a dip-pen. They don't replicate the flow characteristics of fountain pens, and they will work well with some inks that will clog fountain pens. Instead of a dip-pen, I would buy a relatively-inexpensive pen that is easy to clean. E.g. a Parker Frontier and a converter for it. Its nib/feed-unit can be unscrewed from the pen, so cleaning it is very very easy.
    • finzi 18 Apr 21:44
@bhavini I ordered a Sailor Hocoro today, to use for testing. I’ll let you know what it’s like. You can get different nib sizes for it, so maybe more versatile than a glass dip pen.
    • Claes 17 Apr 8:19

    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 22:48
@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.
    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 17:03
Hello @Jeffrey Sher, pen club information can be found in the Pen Clubs, Meetings, and Events sub forum. If you use Google site search you can find information specific to Israel.

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:33
      Guess who loses
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:30
In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44
Can anyone explain how the tariff war will affect fountain pen prices??

Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27
I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

Hello all - New here. My Art studies have spilled me into the ft pen world where I am happily submerged and floating! I'm looking to repair some cheap pens that are starving for ink yet filled, and eventually get new nibs; and development of repair skills (an even longer learning curve than my art studies - lol). Hello, it's been ages for me since I was here last time. I had a post (http://www.fountainpennetwork...-notebooks/?view=getnewpost) but I see that it is no longer accessible. Is there anyway to retrieve that one?

I haven't been here for ages... do I take it that private sales are no longer allowed? Also used to be a great place to sell and buy some great pens

      Lol…
    • JungleJim 1 Sept 1:55
Perhaps it's like saying Beetlejuice 3 times to get that person to appear, though with @Sailor Kenshin you only have to say it twice?

I have no ties or relationship. Just a very happy customer. He is a very experienced Montblanc expert.
    • Seney724 26 Aug 21:42
I strongly recommend Kirk Speer at https://www.penrealm.com/

@Seney724. The pen was recently disassembled and cleaned, but the nib and feed were not properly inserted into the holder. I'm in Maryland.
    • Diablo 26 Aug 21:32
@Seney724. The nib section needs to be adjusted properly.
    • Seney724 26 Aug 18:16

Hello, could someone recommend a reliable venue: on line or brick and mortar in Fairfax, VA or Long Island, NY to purchase the soft parts and a converter to restore my dad's Sheaffer Legacy? please. Thanks a mill.

Hello! Is there a thread anywhere 'round here where one can post self-composed poetry? If not, would it be alright if I made one? I searched on google, but to no avail...

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen
