Thanks KBeezie, and congrats to my fellow tinkerers. We should have some fixing fun... and if anyone is worried about the nibless Serwex, I can send you a nib that fits it. Sort of paying it back... Once you've won the pen, PM me and we'll work it out.

It's disgusting how nice people on this board are!

I love it here!

Hi everyone

On offer for my next PIF is a Parker 51 pen. I know very little about the P51 and I haven’t tried this pen but it looks to be a nice pen in good condition. I think it is burgundy with a Lustraloy cap and probably a medium nib. It has the squared off end and I think it is a Mk III? It has a very narrow band at the bottom of the section. This is an aeromatic fill and the sac looks to be in good condition, with some translucency. The pen is made in England; this is marked around the cap. The barrel is in good order with only a few minor scratches and a couple of very small dings. The cap is a nice tight fit.

I want this PIF to go to someone who hasn’t got a Parker 51yet and who has a record of participation on the FPN forum. It is open worldwide and I’ll meet the postage costs.

To enter, just send me a PIF with a sentence or two about why you think this pen is for you.

This PIF is open until next Saturday 10th May at 7pm British Summer Time.

Good luck everyone :bunny01:

Would you allow us to apply for a friend? She isn't yet a member of FPN, seeing that I haven't managed to influence her enough, but I think she'll love it!

Sorry for the poor handwriting an pictures. This community is wonderful and I am getting to try things I would never have if it wasn't for this thread! Thank you Karl and Jess for making my day and giving me a couple more reasons to keep going back to my desk and writing. In fact thank you to all of you who share the love on this thread. I enjoy checking up on here during my breaks at work because seeing the generosity of you all always brightens a hard day.

:P The Burgundy alone should attract some attention (there's something unique about burgundy, especially in pens, I don't usually see it on many other day to day objects, especially modern).

Your longhand is better than mine lol (I'm out of practice). :P But by god, blue in a red pen? hehe j/k, hope that red magma is a conversation starter so you can get some other folks into the FP fold.

I nearly entered for that very reason. But I've gotten a couple things recently...and it's a medium.

A medium wouldn't bug me, I kind of need a medium for balance lol. The only regular medium I use right now is a Jinhao 159 with a Medium Goulet Nib (and the Pilot's medium is more of a western fine).

Yours is currently packed, but I haven't been able to send it out yet (I keep waking up after the local post office closes), but that just means I'll have a few to drop off monday morning then, once I get everyone packaged.

OK, I have a for parts/tinkering PIF, a Sheaffer Fashion Slim pen in solid medium blue, it's quite a pretty pen and I like the way it looks but it's not balanced right for me (especially when posted) and it seems to have suffered a catastrophic cartridge failure (which may have been user error on my part the first time I tried to use the Slim cartridge, I freely admit). The PIF is the pen, an empty Sheaffer Slim cartridge that may have a leak out the back end, a Monteverde mini converter (rumored to fit the slim pens but I couldn't get it to work) and some regular Sheaffer cartridges so that you at least get something definitely useful. Just to be super clear this pen currently only kind of works although if you replace the cartridge with one that doesn't leak or with the (discontinued) Sheaffer Slim converter I'm sure it will work correctly.

First come first serve, US only because I don't think you could get the necessary parts elsewhere (Sheaffer is exponentially more common in the US than out of it from what I know).

I just discovered the Pay It Forward corner on FPN - what a great idea! I'm offering bottles of ink that range from hardly opened, to about 85% full. I'm moving apartment yet again, and while these inks are fantastic, I think someone else here could make much better use of them. I'll ship them anywhere, but I ask that you cover the cost of shipping. I'm sending them from NYC.

Okay, Here is the PIF for April, will Be drawn on 30th of april.

A Nightingale, Softbound, STD size(177 × 240 mm) Lay Flat Ruled notebook. The paper is light but really nice, no bleeding, very rare feathering but there is some ghosting. (I wanted to give a Hardbound book but the shipping charges would kill me, so may be some other time :) )

*Note* If the winner is interested in Hindu Mythology and have use for a pocket book i would throw in one of the Vedic Series Pocket size(A7) notebook as well. Not including it with the pif because of its size and design. Add a line or two in the PM as to why you want this. you can see these here. (http://www.flipkart.com/pens-stationery/diaries-notebooks/notebooks/nightingale~brand/pr?p%5B%5D=facets.size%255B%255D%3DA7&p%5B%5D=sort%3Dpopularity&sid=dgv%2Cgas%2Cv3u&ref=d4605c10-b7e8-4b5a-9c0a-a0c8c8220759)

This is the Notebook

attachicon.gifdsc02813.jpg

attachicon.gifdsc02816.jpg

Now the rules, It is open to everyone except for people in India (as they can buy it anyways). I would like you to tell me in a few words, why you would like the notebook and specially if you want the small one as well. As has been the discussion on this thread lately, *Entrant's Discretion is advised*, I will draw by Random.org but will not consider anyone who can not even write up a few lines. I think no one would be offended. I will Post by registered post on my cost but if the winner wants express post it would be nice if they can pay the difference. Even people who have won recently can enter as i want it to go to someone who will enjoy it. But i will again not consider people with less than 20 posts + more than 6 months old or really new (created for the PIf accounts). :)

Time for the result, there were 6 entries, So i did dice rolls to get the winner. I did 20 dice rolls, and here is the result

Betweenthelines - 4

mknoblauch - 2

artibasos - 3

mhguda - 6

Cryptos - 2

Ray Cornett - 3

So the winner is mhguda...... Congratulations. :) PM me for further communication.

@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.
    • Penguincollector 15 Apr 17:03
Hello @Jeffrey Sher, pen club information can be found in the Pen Clubs, Meetings, and Events sub forum. If you use Google site search you can find information specific to Israel.

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.

In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44
Can anyone explain how the tariff war will affect fountain pen prices??

No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27
I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

Hello all - New here. My Art studies have spilled me into the ft pen world where I am happily submerged and floating! I'm looking to repair some cheap pens that are starving for ink yet filled, and eventually get new nibs; and development of repair skills (an even longer learning curve than my art studies - lol). I haven't been here for ages... do I take it that private sales are no longer allowed? Also used to be a great place to sell and buy some great pens

      Lol…
    • JungleJim 1 Sept 1:55
Perhaps it's like saying Beetlejuice 3 times to get that person to appear, though with @Sailor Kenshin you only have to say it twice?

I have no ties or relationship. Just a very happy customer. He is a very experienced Montblanc expert.
    • Seney724 26 Aug 21:42
I strongly recommend Kirk Speer at https://www.penrealm.com/

@Seney724. The pen was recently disassembled and cleaned, but the nib and feed were not properly inserted into the holder. I'm in Maryland.
    • Diablo 26 Aug 21:32
@Seney724. The nib section needs to be adjusted properly.
    • Seney724 26 Aug 18:16

Hello, could someone recommend a reliable venue: on line or brick and mortar in Fairfax, VA or Long Island, NY to purchase the soft parts and a converter to restore my dad's Sheaffer Legacy? please. Thanks a mill.

Back to FPN after 14 years. First thing I noticed is that I could not see a FS forum. What has changed? 🤔

Hello! Is there a thread anywhere 'round here where one can post self-composed poetry? If not, would it be alright if I made one? I searched on google, but to no avail...

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen

I have a Conway Stewart Trafalgar set. It was previously owned by actor Russell Crowe and includes a letter from him. Can anyone help me with assessing its value?
    • Sailor Kenshin 15 July 17:41
There must be a couple of places here to share artworks.
    • T.D. Rabbit 15 July 12:45
Hullo! I really like making ink doodles, and I'd like to share a few. Anywhere on the site I can do so? Thanks in advance!
