Kbeezie, is that one of your head shots for your modeling portfolio? I do agree that thumbthing is wrong with my face, but after seeing yours I feel much better!

BTW I have never seen a septum so deviated!

Paul

Lol, I'm usually the one shooting the models... for obvious reasons.

Hah!

No embargoes, but strangely enough there are old fortifications around the country that I have seen and which, I am reliably informed, were built to repel a Russian invasion during the second World War. After all New Zealand is admirably situated as a strategic location for an engagement being fought in Western Europe!

Russians? The Soviets were never enough of a naval force in the Pacific in World War II to matter. And if they had been they would had to have dealt with the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) which was, and remains, very near their Pacific fleet port of Vladivostok.

Much more likely is that the fortifications were built to repel an invasion force escorted by the IJN. By 1942, New Zealand was definitely on the agenda of the Japanese Empire, although Australia and some other islands north of New Zealand were higher up o that agenda due to geography.

BTW, merry ANZAC Day.

On a sacred quest for the perfect blue ink mixture!

Ah, I just checked this out (not being a New Zealander myself) and found that I have been slightly misinformed. The fortifications were originally built to repel the Russians around the end of the 19th century, and later maintained for possible IJN incursions as you point out.

Yup, ANZAC day here. It's weird because they do not celebrate Remembrance Day (11th Nov), even though many more Australian and New Zealand servicemen were involved. And yet ANZAC day is a big thing here despite the fact that substantially greater numbers of British (non-NZ/Aus) troops were killed than ANZAC forces. Mind you, ANZAC day is not observed in the UK, so perhaps it's one of those proprietary things.

It seems to me a little weird to wish 'happy' or 'merry' ANZAC day when it's dedicated to the remembrance of so many casualties.

Anyhow, I pay my respect to the brave and loyal and their sacrifices. *standing at attention and saluting*

Paul says his heart is small. I contend that he just keeps using one of those mirrors where "Objects in mirror are larger than they appear."

Thanks, Paul. PM sent.

DAY-TIMER/FILOFAX STYLE PERSONAL ORGANISER

For this PIF I am offering my hardly used and very well cared for, Day-Timer Organiser. This is the Personal size, so a bit smaller/narrower than A5. The inserts sheets are approx. 95mm x 165mm. Standard size Filofax/W H Smith and other inserts will fit this organiser. You can buy a hole punch if you want to use your own paper.

It's made of beautiful top quality, soft black leather, and is fully zipped around to protect the contents. It will be supplied empty.

It is the largest capacity in this size, and the standard 6-ring configuration provides plenty of room for lots of refill pages and inserts. The depth of the organiser is at least 2cm so can take extra bits and bobs as well as the inserts. The organiser has 2 pen loops, big enough to take a large pen (see pic showing a TWSBI 580 in the right hand loop).

On the right side there is a slot (top and bottom) to take a top glued notepad. On the left hand side there is a full length open gusseted pocket, a zipped secure pocket, another open pocket in front of that and various slots for business cards, travel cards etc.

Although this is a used item it is a beautiful organiser.

This PIF is open to everyone, worldwide. Entry is via PM to me. Please add a few lines about why you’d like this organiser or what you'd use it for. I will pay the shipping.

The PIF will close at 7pm (BST) Friday 9th May

I was rummaging in my desk this morning and I've found some items that fit the organiser I'm offering as a PIF. There's a mixture of plain, coloured and lined pages and some slightly smaller diary pages which still fit the rings. There's also a pad of small narrow-ruled sticky notes, a ruler/page marker and a clear zip-up plastic wallet onsert. I estimate there are approx 200 sheets of paper.

I don't think they're particularly fountain pen-friendly but will be OK for single sided use, or just scribbling notes etc. I'll throw these in with the organiser.

Here are the paper inserts::

One day left to enter!

Only four entries so far. I will happily ship anywhere (courtesy of understanding employers).

I've drawn from the 8 entries I received, and Ellenspn (#5) was the winner!

Thanks for everyone who entered my first PIF, and thank you also to all those who give :)

I just discovered the Pay It Forward corner on FPN - what a great idea! I'm offering bottles of ink that range from hardly opened, to about 85% full. I'm moving apartment yet again, and while these inks are fantastic, I think someone else here could make much better use of them. I'll ship them anywhere, but I ask that you cover the cost of shipping. I'm sending them from NYC.

Got a PIF here for you Esterbrook users out there.

I have a 2556 nib that I don't use, so I thought I'd do something a little interesting with it. Send me a PM describing what your ideal kind of nib is, or just one that you would like, and I'll do my best to reground this 2556 nib to fit your description, and send it to you.

Things I can't do:

-oblique nibs (though I will try if you really want one)

-extreme broad nibs (the 2556 has only so much tipping)

-super extra fine nibs (no way I could match the smoothness of the stock 9550, 9450, etc.)

This is geared more towards those who want italic/stub nibs, but can't find one, or want very personalized parameters. However, if all you want is a round nib, I can do that too.

I'll choose one person randomly on May 2nd

I'm only willing to pay for shipping within the continental US. Sorry.

Speaking of home, look what arrived at mine. :P

Edit: seems I can easily clip a 5th pen right down the middle of the wrap comfortably when it's rolled up if I want to have a not-so-delicate pen there for easy grab without unrolling the thing. (It's what I'm currently doing with the faber castell BASIC).

This is amazing looking!

Portia Of Belmont: I think your next PIF should be for the little cutie who is your avatar!

fpn_1384974038__image.jpg

Sinistral1, your little guy is precious! My Bailey will be three in July, but my avatar is a photo of him when we first brought him home -- he was only 10 weeks old and 4lbs. Here's a more recent pic.

post-112590-0-19768800-1398523819_thumb.jpg

Like your Winston, Bailey's favorite spot is as close as possible and preferably on my lap (which is where he is right now!). Don't you just love these fur-babies! :-)

Thanks to everyone who entered my PIF! I'll be drawing for the winner and announcing it on Monday. I'm so excited to send out these pens to the lucky winners!
